Question.. what is the purpose of not revealing the pennant number of the 002 CV? What's the big secret? Thanks!

A good question ... and I have no answer.

I suspect numbers have a different meaning in China. They are not for enumeration, so they are not predictable. Perhaps they are supposed to bring good luck and therefore should not be betrayed prematurely?

No. As a matter of fact, its done all the time in daily lives, both religious and superstitious practices.

If its all about good luck, you have all sorts of ships numbered "8" and no ship or plane will have any numbers like "4" and "7". But sure we have frigate like 547 or destroyer like 154. Ships will have their commissioning on "lucky" dates determined by Feng Hsui, and no house, office building, factory, warehouse will have their main door facing north.

More like its not officially encouraged, so its not done in the governmental level, public institutions, etc,.. But for private individuals and businesses, you can do whatever you want.

Maybe someone in a high level ordered it. They are probably waiting for someone at a very high level to do the inauguration. I have a theory it might be Xi Jing Ping himself.
