Now THAT is exactly what I am talking about.

What is your view of the new island Jeff? is this what you expected?

YEs. The mock-up has one that looks very similar.

I believe they have new phased array radars that will be on it that are more powerful, and believe that the footprint of the island is a little smaller.

I expected the footprint is smaller to the point PLAN could fit 2 extra J-15, one at the left and the other one at the right of the island ... I don't know ... but it may be too much expectation from me

The additional deck level/pri-fly level really adds to the sense of height on this island compared to Liaoning.
The enlarged and relocated Pri-Fly we saw in Wuhan, is not realized in this island. It will be realized with type 002. The island on type 001A gets a so called second "admirals bridge" below the captains bridge, looks like it can function as a command ship.

The footprint of the bridge is only a few meters less because it has a straight insted a curved wall on her front (and I guess on her aft).

The mock-up in Wuhan was changed two times. The first change represents the bridge of type 001A (mainly changes for radar arrangements), the second and present change is for type 002.

I believe the "enlarged and relocated" pri-fly on Wuhan was not a pri-fly at all, but rather a new deck level of the island for 002 build on the existing island's main bridge level. The supposed "pri-fly" on the Wuhan mock up we see, I believe, is not really meant to be a pri-fly but a remnant of the old island design that has yet to be removed.

As for the second deck on 001A, I do believe it could very well be a pri-fly. There is nothing about the geometry of the second deck level that says to me it is impractical for such a use.

Too soon to say whether the footprint of the island would be smaller only because of using straight walls for the base of the island or not. I personally would not be too surprised if they actually did make an effort to make the island a little bit smaller than Liaoning.

Yes, I agree that the mockup on Wuhan was changed two times.

However, I think neither change was or will be fully representative of the ship's they are meant to be for (001A and 002 respectively), because in both cases they are bound by certain practical limitations of reshaping and rebuilding the structure of the island mock up.

Everyone here has his own opinion. It's like a competition. At the end we get the resolution, who could better foresee. It is always helpful, not to be confused with desires and observations.

Sure, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't aim for more productive discussion.

With the PLA especially, I think we have an obligation to not only just provide opinions but also try to narrow down the most likely possibilities based on the limited information and rumours that we have to reach a most-likely consensus.
