Interesting article. I think it's important to note that you don't go from no carriers to 100,000-ton supercarriers in one generation. Rome wasn't built in a day.

What's really significant is that the author admits that US forces are becoming increasingly vulnerable to the PLA. The USN can lose one or even two CSGs in an all-out war involving Taiwan. I read in a RAND report a while back that the USN would need at least 5 CSGs to defend Taiwan against a Chinese invasion. Seems like that report is pretty accurate in its estimations.

Guys ... I just deleted about 40 posts of pure political content even more on the topic "China and Taiwan".

The next one who posts - especially after several members requested to stop - will be banned for two weeks to calm down.

I am quite impressed with the barracks ship. There are facilities on top of the ship that's intended to keep people fit, including a running track and a basketball court.

Does it appear to me that the barracks ship and the carrier are connected by this blue bridge-tunnel? I am thinking that both the workers and the would be crew of the carrier are currently residing on the barracks ship, as they work on the ship.

The outfitting process and system calibrations for China's first domestically designed aircraft carrier are going smoothly, and the defense ministry will announce the "good news" — referring to its sea trial — in the future, a Ministry of National Defense spokesman said on Thursday.

Senior Colonel Wu Qian made the remarks in response to recent photos of the carrier, known by its type designation 001A, showing the ship had finished installing its radar and removed most of its supporting scaffolds.

Construction of the carrier started in November 2013, and it was officially launched in April 2017.
