Guys, we have gone so far as to call it CV-17 (001A).

I think we have more than enough documentation to stick with that until we get something official.

We have CV-16 Liaoning., CV-17 (001A), and the last thread for PLAN CV Type 002 Thread.

All of us know what each of those are, and all of them line up with what we have seen and heard for years, and what even semi-official PRC press have used.

As I say, let's leave it that way until we hear for sure from the PLAN or the PRC something for sue that is different. Right now...we just haven't and there's no need to change simply because some others have decided to go a different route...unless, as I say, there is an official announcement one way or another.

If we get an official PLAN or PRC statement regarding something different, we will change it.

I would go further. IMO Type 002 is official and we should rename it !

LOL! can you bring me up to speed on what's going on here recently, the carrier launched in Dalian earlier this year should now be called "Type 002"??
and if I didn't misunderstand, what would be the designation of the third Chinese carrier (the one being built according to

If now Shandong is Type 002 the futur is Type 003 logic now as for Jeff for me right now i don't see changes

Yet many changes with ORBAT for Army, for AF !!! it becomes a habit with this country :rolleyes:

Difficult to summarize esp. since I'm not a Navy guy. Anyway I'll try:

During the last few weeks several CCTV-reports as well as other reports were leaked and one stated that the carrier just under preparation at Dalian (= aka our so far called Type 001A) is already the Type 002.

There was then a heated debate in several forums on whether we should rename or not and we decided to wait. However IMO and from what I learned via some very reliable guys in China, the correct designation is indeed Type 002 for the carrier we formerly called Type 001A.

As for the designation CV-17 and even more its name Shandong I would be careful ....
