PLA Daily reported that Liaoning was carrying more than 20 J-15s when it departed its home port of Qingdao in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong on June 25.
Eight aircraft and three helicopters on board.

For the evening party #121 (opposite aft elevator) and #111 (opposite forward elevator) were brought into the hangar. The next day #114 and #122 were parked on the port side of the flight deck, #119 and #113 were parked on the starboard side aft and #111, #116, #121 and #120 next to the island.

Foreigners were allowed there?

Well, you can visit an Japanese ship every Sunday in Kure - even as foreigner.
I'm guessing

On the JFK and Nimitz also when we anchored out we used "Deck House Four" to leave and return on liberty when anchored out. Now-a-days a large bumper is on the aft end of a Nimitz class which is used by tugs to maneuver the ship..Deck House Four is still used.

JFK sailors gon on liberty in a Mediterranean port in 1973.

If receiving a mass of non-sailors I would prefer the method just used by Liaoning.

I was just thinking if this was in the US a lot of visitors could not make it up those ladders . Why? Lots of obese folks in the USA.

Apparently there is no embarkation sponson or permanent ladder aboard CV-16....Or perhaps this method of bring aboard visitors was prefered.

C'mon those ladders are not that high.o_O:p

Presumably she is going on to exercises in SCS and she has sent half of her aircraft ashore to make more space to receive guests in HK.

I think it was a misunderstanding. On the question of the reporter "how many airplanes are on board" came the answer of the interview guest "it can be more than 20".

Those shipmates are having a nice swim call!

Those booms were used to tie up the ships boats. USN carriers no longer use liberty boats. They just lease whatever is available.

In this video you can see some details of the flight deck..One thing I noticed because I'm a sailor I don't see any PLAN "Soldiers" except those on duty on da' roof....I absolutely guarantee you that aboard a USN carrier sailors would be on that flight deck trying to hit on the female visitors... well in days of old we would have.

..they are if you weigh 300lbs..(136kg):D

In my opinion there's not much difference. Both methods work. What you really can't see is that Deck house four leads directly into the ship.

American sailors from USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA 31) going on Liberty in Hong Kong circa 1970. This is how we went on liberty when anchored out aboard Hancock & Midway...dang that was long ago.
