$36 per dose for Sinopharm is expensive. Probably due to the fact the vaccines need to be all delivered before end of May. I think Israel paid $30 per dose for Pfizer so it can be delivered early. Prices have seemed to be gone up for fast delivery.

Xi played Trump like a fiddle if this account is to be believed. Although I dont necessarily attribute this to malice from China's part as the virus was still new then and they didnt have the data that they have now, it doesnt seem plausible to me that Xi could say with a straight face that there was no danger when Wuhan had to bs locked down and people were dying. It will be interesting to see the consequences if the article is true.

It is astounding that the Western media would dare to question China's successful strategy to contain covid. More importantly, compare Zhang with Fauci is laughable since Zhang is not Zhong Nanshan. In addition, Zhang had made many wrong calls early on especially his predication that the US could handle the covic-19 easily. Majority of mainland Chinese strongly support the government so Western media attempted to drive wedge between public discord regarding stringent methods wouldn't make a dent.

Typical western tactic, pick one person out of the system, take just one side of his word, makes him an "anti-system" hero.

The fact is that, Zhang Wenzhong is NOT the ONLY one who has voiced against excessive "locking down". At the very early period in 2020, two weeks after Wuhan lock-down, the central government has directed the local governments NOT to take excessive measures treating the people returning from outside, NOT to block passage of outsiders through roads.

The west apparently choose to ignore what the central government did "good" but attribute that "good" to a person to make him like an anti-system "hero". What Zhang said openly is pretty much shared by everybody in the leadership.

This is just a repeated tactic like using Dr. Li Wenliang as if Li Wenliang uncovered some sort of covering-up. In reality, the situation has already been in the procedure of being reported to the highest medical and political authority and being evaluated. What Li did was merely leaking some PRELIMINARY information that no conclusion could be made yet.

Are you sure that is a Western news outlet? The writing and grammatical structure in that article is atrocious. Any Western-educated middle school student can write better than this author. If anything, I think this news outlet is Indian.

So whether China can successfully come up with its own mRNA vaccine will demonstrate if its pharmaceutical capabilities are on par and can compete on this industry with the rest of the world

I will only respond to this part because I agree with what else you have said "mRNA may be faster to adapt for new variant".

I think we can say the opposite too, "the west is far behind China and can not compete with China in terms of quickly develop a inactivated vaccine in a BSL-3 facility and ramping up production capacity in such high safety standard".

mRNA has its advantages and China certainly should and is pursuing, but making traditional vaccines is no less technological demanding and the west is pretty bad in this part of game. And I won't use "rest of the world" because west is not all rest of the world.

I was extremely disappointed in Dr.Fauci when he said last year on March (or Feb?) that masks didnt work and people didnt need to go and buy then.
After this, his supporters said that he made that statement so that the healthcare staff could find masks, but with his statement he caused tremendous damage to combating the virus by giving excuses to the crazy anti-mask people which are still living in their own magical world even now.

You might have noticed that for a year now the media tried to whitewash this event in all their reports. And now Dr.Fauci is hailed as a hero who resisted against all odds (Trump..) and managed to keep the voice of reason inside the previous administration. While, i admit that Dr.Fauci is a hero, the lack of debate and the cover up from the media is pretty disturbing to me and it points to deeper issues but thats a story for another time

Yes even Xi at that time said there were obvious problems with the government’s management of the outbreak. The Western media immediately took it as an admission of an official cover-up, when it was apparent to anyone who knew the context that the comment was about the excessive lockdown measures, the PPE shortage and the whole Wuhan Red Cross fiasco.
