That"s the problem, a lot of people are thinking that once we get the vaccine, everything will be back to pre covid days. In Nz we need the students and the tourists that make up a sizeable portion of the economy.

I think it was ten thousand people working for Tyson Foods reported to have caught COVID-19. And workers accuse management of not taking precautions hence why so many cases.
Somewhere in this thread or a similarly related one, there is a reported interview with Chinas most internationally renowned virologist on bat virus and head of the Wuhan lab Shi Zhengli. In it, she spoke of another bat virus that wasn't far off in might being able to make the jump to humans. Trouble is, what do scientists mean by not far...... a few years or decades?

There must be more to the India story than just covid. Even assuming full year on year contraction of 10% GDP, you would also expect that much of the loss will be made back in 2021 as the country also recovers alot of GDP (which is distinctively easier than growing GDP). Im curious as to what is taking of 20% from thier entire economy growth, which seems like something more structural, and in fact implies growth around 4% over the 2019-2024 time-frame.
On the other side, I expect the west next year to parade the story non-stop that China's economy is collapsing, as the US and other G7 countries ratchet up growth of +6% (really just restoration of parts of the economy to 2020 levels) while China posts completely unremarkable numbers of 5-6%.

That IF you can handle the virus. China handled in by around March and April 2020 and still experienced growth stunting. If they can't eradicate it by say around mid 2021, can they get their economic growth back.
With a second wave going on in Europe and the USA and with the same lack of competence and with the added woes of the tourism and general industries going to hell because Pompeo kept tell others not to deal with China, which means China doesn't invest in those nations which means no new jobs, hence what's more important, politics and sucking Pompeo's ding ding or food and water and money to buy them. If the pandemic last long enough that the resources of all those nations are depleted while the pandemic is still going on, then it is possible that all those nations will eventually suffer protests and civil unrest that will further stunt growth for months if not years to come, all because Pompeo cannot stop being a racist b&*(h. Hence all this will do is simply make things easier for China to show the world that if you want stable growth and peace, do no listen to any white right winger in the white house that is busy being racist all day long. It would be to the benefit for all nations if Pompeo disappears for good, less he end up dragging Europe/any western nation down with the USA. Note that this isn't something that China wants but it is something the China would be prepared for since at the least China doesn't let stupidity get in the way of planning for the future.
