Sorry to hear of your experiences. It certainly make my arguments with my co-workers and friends pale into insignificance.

I cant speak for the rest, but Malaysia and Vietnam did have severe lockdowns and much more strict quarantines of close contacts. Indonesia's count was very dubious: they were still claiming to have zero cases for almost a month after everybody else.How about Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal? None of them suffered many deaths. They were also countries that were incapable of rushing a high-tech response like South Korea. Did they implement strict social distancing measures that were quickly and properly heeded? Did they even enter economic freeze/lock-down in order to contain the spread? I didn't specifically look for news on them so I don't know how much they did (I have a feeling that they did not defend themselves with much of anything) but if you asked me in February, I would say that these places are crowded, humid, and often impoverished; if COVID-19 got into their country, they'd be toast. But it did and they're doing very well unless all of them are just not reporting accurately.

I keep saying, international Chinese media are not competent enough, we live in a propaganda war, the little Qatar with Al Jazeera managed to influence the whole world, Russia with RT managed to influence the whole world, RT is the most followed media channel on youtube, and its propaganda is effective
China ? totally incompetent media, how do you want to target a western audience with panda pictures and classical music? wake up ! we live in a propaganda war
And if I keep saying this, it is because I love China and I want it to adopt more effective propaganda, and if I take the example of Qatar or Russia, it's because it shows that countries even hated in the west can create effective propaganda in the west.
China has remained in Soviet style propaganda (like North Korea), that can't work in the West, the Russians have remarkably succeeded in adopting a very effective propaganda style, that is why all Western governments are afraid of RT
This is an interesting article on the complicated politics of racing to develop the first working Covid-19 vaccine. Do not let the title mislead you into thinking it is all against Trump. Typical Western MSM, it also includes the obligatory China bashing.
On Monday (May 4th), the European Union is hosting a gathering for countries to pledge funding for research into vaccines and treatments for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. But once again the U.S. government isn’t expected to participate. China will likely attend but may not want to contribute much money.
Well, the US and China governments, and to a lesser degree, the UK government also, are already pumping a lot of their own money into companies from their own respective country to develop the vaccine, and are seeing some results. Several are in various phases of human clinical trial. The EU is way behind with only one German company (assuming UK no longer part of EU) just getting ready to start Phase 1 trial. So why would the US, China or UK want to spend more money to help out EU ? The meeting looks to be out of EU's fear of not having their own vaccine and being at the mercy of the US and/or China.
Just my personal opinion. If a Chinese company successfully develops a vaccine. China should buy up the right to the vaccine and donated it to the WHO for the benefits of all member countries who fully pay their dues.
"The fundraiser was hosted by the European Commission (EC) and co-chaired by several countries including Germany, Norway, France, Britain, Italy, Japan and Saudi Arabia, which currently holds the G20 chair."Below is an article on the outcome of the EU meeting on Monday. As I predicted, it looked like an EU only affair. 7 EU countries and the EC pledged Euro 7.4 B to develop a coronavirus vaccine and treatments.
* US did not attend
* China was represented by her EU ambassador but seemed to be just an observer.
* No mention of UK attending or pledging any money.
