@Gatekeeper I get attacked all the time due to where I live haha.
This is an interesting article on the complicated politics of racing to develop the first working Covid-19 vaccine. Do not let the title mislead you into thinking it is all against Trump. Typical Western MSM, it also includes the obligatory China bashing.
On Monday (May 4th), the European Union is hosting a gathering for countries to pledge funding for research into vaccines and treatments for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. But once again the U.S. government isn’t expected to participate. China will likely attend but may not want to contribute much money.
Well, the US and China governments, and to a lesser degree, the UK government also, are already pumping a lot of their own money into companies from their own respective country to develop the vaccine, and are seeing some results. Several are in various phases of human clinical trial. The EU is way behind with only one German company (assuming UK no longer part of EU) just getting ready to start Phase 1 trial. So why would the US, China or UK want to spend more money to help out EU ? The meeting looks to be out of EU's fear of not having their own vaccine and being at the mercy of the US and/or China.
Just my personal opinion. If a Chinese company successfully develops a vaccine. China should buy up the right to the vaccine and donated it to the WHO for the benefits of all member countries who fully pay their dues.
Great news for China, it means that in confronting China over coronavirus the us could not expect unwavering support from its closest allies
Contrary to Australian papers and Pompeo. They are really grasping at straws.
Also according to guardian, the WHO has not recieved any info stated by the US.
WHO says has no proof from US on ‘speculative’ Wuhan lab claims
The World Health Organization said Monday that Washington had provided no evidence to support “speculative” claims by the US president that the new coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab, AFP reports.
“We have not received any data or specific evidence from the United States government relating to the purported origin of the virus - so from our perspective, this remains speculative,” WHO emergencies director Michael Ryan told a virtual briefing.
Scientists believe the killer virus jumped from animals to humans, emerging in China late last year, possibly from a market in Wuhan selling exotic animals for meat.
But US President Donald Trump, increasingly critical of China’s management of the first outbreak, claims to have proof it started in a Wuhan laboratory.
And US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday said “enormous evidence” backed up that claim, which China has vehemently denied.
“Like any evidence-based organisation, we would be very willing to receive any information that purports to the origin of the virus,” Ryan said, stressing that this was “a very important piece of public health information for future control.
“If that data and evidence is available, then it will be for the United States government to decide whether and when it can be shared, but it is difficult for the WHO to operate in an information vacuum in that regard,” he added.
This must be the infamously delayed payments so they can put his signature on the cheque!
This is why China must strengthen its propaganda and its international media, because anti-Chinese feelings are not only rising in America, but also in Asia, Africa, Europe, and especially in India.
Key U.S. Allies Skeptical of Trump’s Coronavirus Lab Leak Claims
Five Eyes members and intelligence analysts push back against attempts to pin the virus on Chinese biosafety mistakes.
Despite claims from the Trump administration of a growing consensus that COVID-19 originated from a Chinese government lab, three members of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing partnership and sources within the U.S. national security community are throwing cold water on the theory.
Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada have pointedly not backed up America’s apparent surety that the novel coronavirus was either deliberately or accidentally leaked from a Chinese lab. All three countries are members of the Five Eyes, the postwar espionage pact designed to share intelligence between like-minded governments, along with New Zealand.
A Trump administration projection and a public model both predict deaths rising as states reopen.
As President Trump presses for states to reopen their economies, his administration is privately projecting a steady rise in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths over the next several weeks. The daily death toll will reach about 3,000 on June 1, according to an internal document obtained by The New York Times, nearly double the current number of about 1,750.
The projections, based on government modeling pulled together in chart form by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, forecast about 200,000 new cases each day by the end of the month, up from about 25,000 cases a day currently.
...
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington is now estimating that there will be nearly 135,000 deaths in the U.S. through the beginning of August — more than double what it forecast on April 17, when it estimated 60,308 deaths by Aug. 4. (There have already been more than 68,000 deaths in the U.S.)
The virus may not have even found its origins in Wuhan or Wuhan Wet Markets. It may just be were it was spread widely and detected. The type A virus that most resembles coming from bat is more prevalent in Guandong patients.
