And yes, Donald Trump's scientific recommendations that you are about to read below are indeed easily stupider than anything anyone managed to come up with for Dumb and Dumber, so brace yourself.

“Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous ultra violet or just very powerful light,” he said, looking toward Bryan and Dr. Deborah Birx, a member of the White House coronavirus task force. “And I think you said that hasn’t been checked but you are going to test it.”

He added, “And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you could do either through the skin or in some other way. I think you said that you are going to test that, too. And then I saw the disinfectant, where knocks it out in one minute, and is there a way we could do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning. As you see it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”

Bryan later said that using disinfectant to clean the lungs is not possible. “Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work,” Trump then said.

Trump responded, “Hey Phil. I’m the president, and you’re fake news. And know what I will say to you? I will say it to you very nicely because I know you well. I know the guy, I see what he writes. He is a total faker.

He then said that it was merely an idea to test. “Are you ready? It is just a suggestion, from a brilliant lab by a very, very smart, perhaps brilliant man,” Trump said. “[Bryan] is talking about sun. He’s talking about heat, and you see the numbers. I’m just here to present talent. I am here to present ideas, because we want ideas to get rid of this thing. So if heat is good, if sunlight is good, that is a great thing as far as I am concerned.”

When he mentioned "hitting the body with a very powerful light" with something like uranium, polonium and radium isotope. He has a point there that it will surely kill the coronavirus.

It is significant that Gao Fu, the head of the China's CDC which approves all vaccines, to make this projection for the first time.

* China may have a vaccine against the deadly Covid-19 for emergency use by September, and
* for the general public early next year

It could be that he has seen enough promising results from the three ongoing clinical trials in China for him to come out and made the statement. Even so, his projection is still quite conservative.

I was reading about wet markets and I just realized that for the greater part of history this is how humans obtained their food and it is still the main source of food for the majority of humans on this earth. Its also not particularly unusual if the markets sold live animals or if hunters/foragers brought wild animals to sell. This isn't to say that I disagree with scientific progress, regulations, and sanitation in wet markets.

What is new is the shift to highly processed foods, and between eating bats/crickets/scorpions and eating pink slime I'm not sure which should raise more brows. While close contact with unregulated wild animals raises the risk of communicable diseases, the consumption of highly processed foods brings with it the epidemic of obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes the impact of which cannot be any less than that of a viral disease. There is also no vaccine.

So when we enter into discussion on the morality of consumption of different food types, this is something which should be brought up and if we're to go further to assign public health related blame perhaps we should also hold accountable those who've promoted those above diseases for the sake of profit. And while on this topic, why not also address, from a public health standpoint, the origins of tobacco, opiates, cocaine...
