People don’t drop dead from this kind of thing. There is a period of incubation It seems like This is in that period asymptotic. Meaning there are almost no signs of infection the progressively the symptoms kick in. Because you also have Cold and Flu season on things get more problematic. As even when symptoms kick in they are flu like. So you have to sort the Wheat form the chaff so to speak. Older individuals and the very young or weak can be killed from this just as well as a hard case of the flu. So is patient A sick from a cold, the Flu or Corona Wuhan? The Asymptotic period is it seems still a period of possible spread. So an infected individual can spread this thing without knowing it or appearing sick.

You are right that people do not just drop dead from this kind of virus but that would be during normal times. However we are not witnessing normal times. As I stated from the outset, there is a threshold that any health system is designed to cope but beyond that level it becomes highly problematic. We are already witnessing it as suspected patients are being turned away because the hospitals are full or they have ran out of testing kits. Suspected cases not severe enough are just being told to isolate themselves

It is just maths. Currently there are 2000 new confirmed cases daily and growing Statistically 25 % of that will require hospitalization i.e. 500. In reality, you will need to build at least 500 beds a day just to cope. If the infection rate is not contained then the number exponentially grows. Given that the virus is capable of asymptomatic transmission, containment is almost impossible.

Can someone explain why the virus seems to be less deadly outside of Wuhan/Hubei ?

The mortality rate of the 2019-nCoV is about 2%. When you have thousands of confirmed infected patients, the statistics applies and you get many deaths. On the other hand, at most other places, you get 10 infected patients. What is 2% of 10? That’s why you don’t get deaths at all. All about the statistics.

It's more likely that they're collapsing from regular health emergencies such as heart attack/stroke/etc. with people recording or taking pictures instead of helping because they're afraid of the virus.

The outbreak is bad enough. Fear mongering like this just gives more fuel to those nutjobs who are hoping to live out some sort of twisted disaster movie fantasy.

Thankfully we in this modern age have much more resilient and capable health care to ward off a virus such as this.

Not so in 1918 -1919...Read about the 1918-'19 Worldwide flu pandemic that killed 3% to 5% of the World's population. Exact figures are unknown. However in the US 195,000 people died of the flu.

I'm voicing that there needs to be at least 2 independent screening agencies that viral samples are sent to when they are first discovered. SARS also began began because of an initial mischaracterization that caused it to fall out of view of public health officials. This time, same thing with Dr. Fu. There needs to be 2 or more independent agencies that don't rely on each other or take the other's word for anything.

Firstly, let me say that we all respect everyone’s most fundamental right to express themselves and their freedom of speech. We absolutely do!

However, there is a huge difference between your freedom of speech and the appropriateness of your speech under certain grave situation.

Am I allowed to ask a lady her age? Of course I am! Should I get penalized for asking? No! Is it appropriate for me to ask? Absolutely no.

Am I allowed to curse my host when I’m invited to dinner? Of course I am. I have my freedom to express my feelings. Is it appropriate for me to be rude to my host? Absolutely not!

There is a difference between whether you are allowed to say something and whether it is appropriate for you to say it.

Of course, any Danish has his/her freedom to express their feelings. I would, however, like to remind my fellow Danish friends and the Madam Prime Minister, at this very moment, over 10,000 innocent Chinese people, ordinary Chinese people who have done no ill to anyone else and have done no wrong to any Danish, are fighting for their lives. Hundreds have died and countless may die later. I am talking about the lives of innocent ordinary people here! I ask this question: is it appropriate to joke about this situation by humiliating the national flag of these innocent people who are fighting for their lives?

Is it too much to ask that they should admit that they have done something inappropriate, even something cruel, to humiliate these poor innocent human beings while they are fighting for their lives.

Stop hiding behind of the banner of freedom of speech. Yes, you are allowed to express your feelings. However, it would be inappropriate to intentionally say something hurtful. Inappropriate!
