Talked to kins in Chengdu. Apparently they only knew about the protest in the morning through local weibo housewife group, even though that happened close their condo. Allegedly there were two protest sites, the other one got unnoticed, maybe too small. Most locals felt insulted by those coming in from outside doing stuff. The most complaint about the movement restrictions is due to how China housing structures are built. Condos are built on land parcels so they are grouped into towers or blocks, normally 4,6,8 towers etc, each maybe 30 to 50 floors. So one guy on 36th floor of the 4th tower tested positive, then the whole condo group is lumped together, so the guys on the opposite end of the blocks would complain, as they would normally share the exit and entrance. That's one for all and all for one in 21st century setting. Nowadays it would be only like 5 days, not like before, it's bearable. Local officials don't want too many covid numbers on their records, let alone deaths. These same guys have done a lot for locals so it's not all complaints. It should be floor specific, room specific quarantine, not 2,000 people for 2 cases. Virus prevention and containment is important and must keep infections and spread at a most possible minimum, but how to approach it is equally important. If anyone gets it right, it must be China, nobody else. Dynamic zero covid is theoretically correct, only the application needs to catch up.
