The US CDC website is perhaps one of the most useless and less transparent website out there, Yet it goes around criticizing, accusing and lecturing the world on lack of transparency and incompetency.

China also got hit first in the Wuhan area, whereas there in the EU/US the cases are now just ramping up, ...

Actually, we don't know that the US is just ramping up. Millions of Americans could be infected by SARS-Cov-2, and thousands could already have been killed by it -- far more than China -- and the epidemic might have been ascribed to the flu.

... meaning if there is any truth to the notion at all that warmer climate/springtime will help alleviate the spread of the virus then it would work in the US favor to ride it out until the weather took care of it

So for all the aforementioned reasons and more, I believe the US has assessed that its strategy is going to be just ignore the problem, hope it doesn't get too bad, and let it burn itself out....

Aside from the extreme cynicism of this attitude, there's a problem: Covid-19 has gotten too much exposure. If the Trumpers had kept quiet about it, they might have brazened it out as just another flu. But they saw an opportunity to smear China, and they seized it as a chance to apply more pressure in the trade war. So they pushed it very hard; some people like Steve Bannon have even been gloating in public. So now the American public is very aware of Covid-19, and they want action -- not a prayer circle.

Very true. I think the reason for the tardy US testing is that they don't really want to know how shockingly prevalent the virus is already.

the US didn’t test widespread because they knew about it and didn’t want to admit it... oh the Virus can’t be Chinese... it’s American... sorry really? This seems more like an attempt to pass the buck.

Large numbers? Less than 500 cases? All Five strains? Air travel. You can get from any point in the World to the US in less than the time it takes for incubation.

Love the second line... well done Sir. Well Done. Totally ignoring the thousands of cases in the PRC well passing the buck at the US DOD. By the way how is 12th out of 85 a bad performance?

The problem with these wet markets is because Chinese like their meat fresh meaning these animals since they're wild maybe carrying unwanted things where farmed animals can be on part controlled and monitored. If these animals are carrying anything, it could spread among other animals and other species and mutating along the way or when they are killed at the market, their blood and waste products are spreading around having direct contact among people and animals and viruses and that's where the danger lies. Animals that are rare, endangered, and/or wild and cannot be farmed or just for Chinese medicine should be made illegal. I wouldn't follow the West because it's just ethnocentrism on their part.

Yes, but this cultural preference for *warm* meat has to be addressed with a public health campaign, backed by severe penalties.

And I expect this to be forthcoming, with draconian penalties issued if lower-level government officials do not enforce this.

Then how do you explain the fact that ONLY the US has all five strains of SARS-Cov-2 in large numbers? (China has only two of the strains in notable quantity.)

Maybe different strains of the SAME virus magically appeared in widely separated parts of the world, and these strains for some reason migrated only to the US. Why didn't all five strains go to other countries?

The only reasonable explanation is that the virus started in the US. Perhaps many of the people that attended the World Military Games in Wuhan were infected already, and they passed their germs to the city. If most of the US contingent were weakened, that would explain their extremely poor performance at the Games.

We need the source for your assertion that there are 5 COVID-19 strains in the USA.

Smoking needs to be banned too, there is zero benefit gained from smoking and a tremendous health and resource detriment.

I get it that smoking is a cultural thing in China just like sports is a social thing in the West, but they should replace smoking with something else... some other passion hobby or pasttime, maybe Weiqi

Well, we can see how vaping is replacing smoking in many places.

So smokers still get to feed their nicotine addiction.
But other people and the smokers themselves don't get the nasty by-products of burning tobacco.
