Did you hear the US dropped tariffs on Chinese medical supplies? Ron Vara is upset because "secure supply chains" are threatened because other countries are putting export restrictions. Well if US wasn’t so shameless it wouldn’t be the superpower it is today.

Because they are scarce. Some made in Australia. Even that depends on supply chains. Mostly all manufactured products are imported. Australian economy is based on exports of raw materials and services such as hospitality, tourism, retails, health care, education etc. With international logistics at extremely low level and Chinese workers still staying at home Aussie get nervous. It's not just toilet tissues, every daily necessities are affected. Thus the rush. Even the Australian government is now talking of stocking up medical supplies due world shortages. Haven't done yet, just waking up to reality.

Nah, TP here mostly made domestically. The reason is stupid people. You see same thing in hk and parts of Japan, people hoarding TP. Dun underestimate the amount of silly people and the people following those idiots.

I hope this ban is permanent and strictly enforced. We have learned this lesson too many times, wild animal trafficking is a $7 billion USD business for China, but the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic is probably more than a couple trillion dollars by now. Xi needs to shut every one of these markets down and put the offenders in jail for life.

Never mind the reputation damage to China. Its time to completely crack down on this industry once and for all.

It won't the issue but it reduces the risk. Traffick, sell or eat wild animals, and go to jail for the rest of your life or get the electric chair. See how many people continue to partake in this business.

For the vast majority of people, it's not worth the risk, so it will be a much smaller market.

At a minimum, large animal markets with lots of different wild animals won't exist, because they will be found out and caught.

And whilst we don't know for certain that COVID-19 came from the Wuhan wild animal market, we do know that the SARS coronavirus did come from a Guangdong wild animal market.

Plus the mixing of viruses from lots of different wild animal species and humans is not good.

The problem with these wet markets is because Chinese like their meat fresh meaning these animals since they're wild maybe carrying unwanted things where farmed animals can be on part controlled and monitored. If these animals are carrying anything, it could spread among other animals and other species and mutating along the way or when they are killed at the market, their blood and waste products are spreading around having direct contact among people and animals and viruses and that's where the danger lies. Animals that are rare, endangered, and/or wild and cannot be farmed or just for Chinese medicine should be made illegal. I wouldn't follow the West because it's just ethnocentrism on their part.
