They need local mRNA vaccines. People vaccinated with mRNA vaccines will mostly get mild symptoms.

You need to really check on the data before making such a sweeping statement.
The one that I recall seeing is like 50/50 Inactivated and mRNA vaccines with the lesser part of it Adenovirus vector vaccine.
Could the 42% be referring to those hospitalized cases only?
Even Israel is getting a new vaccine because Pfizer vaccines are not working well against Omicron. Unless mRNA vaccines have been modified to counter Omicron, then using mRNA at this point is useless. It is just a big propaganda from foreign pharmaceutical industries to discredit Chinese vaccines and gain monopoly over vaccines usage in worldwide.

Protein vaccines such as Novavax and Sinopharm second generation seem to fare better than mRNA in dealing with Omicron. Three doses of inactivated vaccines produce similar amount of antibodies with 2 doses of mRNA. Don't know about T cell. However, all vaccines don't do much against infections but the difference in preventing hospitalization and severe cases seem not by too much.
Big pharmaceutical companies are all about profits. Personally, it is getting ridiculous for these companies to suggest that you need a booster shot every 6 months and at the same time attacking Chinese inactivated vaccines and claiming inactivated vaccines are ineffective. Not to say that mRNA vaccines don't have great potential for future vaccines and cure for all kinds of diseases.
Some Chinese scientist published evidence suggesting Omnicron may have mutated in rats/mice and then crossover to human population. Unless we vaccinate all rats/mices, then there will be future variants from now until the end of time.
For the last few years our politicians have been debating the possibility of totally genociding our rodent population. Our experts have said it was doable. So maybe this will kick start the program. I believe parts of Wellington have started already.
