Reading that made me think of high school mean girls. Formerly sophisticated machinery has been reduced to talking like cheerleaders.

Literally every article about China is like high school mean girl gossip:

2. China doesn't like to be criticized and we're criticizing it, haha
3. Nothing China does is right and if it is it isn't worth it so never do what China does even if it works

The West ignores the fact that Chinese Scientists readily admits that COVID is endemic and impossible to eradicate in long-term, and zero-COVID is flexible as we learn more about variants and booster efficacy...
The West spins it as if China wants to eradicate the disease, rather than the truth; which is China aims to reducing spread long enough for most population to be vaccinated and boosted. This concept is completely foreign in US where GDP is king, and even in GDP, China curbs stomps the rest of the world in GDP growth, so West has nothing except obfuscate, project, and lie.

The article says the US and Western countries are successful at handling Omicron. By what measure? The US in one week had infections rates across the country with Omicron at and worse than previous variants. Maybe it's because they didn't have as many deaths. Well that's what they said about Omicron in general... more infectious but less serious. Are they going to falsely take credit for that? The US loses credibility when they claimed to be number one out of the industrial world in handling pandemics. They were the worst and the other Western countries that claimed to handle pandemics better than everyone else followed right behind at being the worst. They gloss over it like it never happened. They won't go through the effort of explaining why they failed. It's because they're following the same path of arrogance as when they thought they were number one in handling pandemics. Another false assumption...the idea because so may Americans got infected with Omicron there's a natural immunity to COVID-19 in general. If that's the case they wouldn't had had high rates of infection with Omicron. The country with one the highest cases of early variants of COVID-19 overall got even more infections with Omicron. Natural immunity through infection didn't protect them from Omicron. What makes them think they'll be protected for the next variant?
China already said zero-COVID is flexible as we learn more about the novel virus, how mild/severe variants are, and how effective boosters are.
China isn't trying to eradicate COVID, it's delaying spread long enough for entire population to be vaccinated and boosted. This is smart strategy that avoids millions of lives unlike West which gave up and did nothing before vaccines were available.
Actually, zero-COVID inspires business confidence and consumer confidence, which is why Chinese GDP growth is significantly faster than every major developed nation including US.
Succeeded by what measure? Case count? China is lower. Death count? China is lower. GDP growth? China is faster.

GDP matters more than lives saved. Got it. And West still has more deaths and less GDP growth, so zero-COVID is more successful than they acknowledge.
Chinese vaccines have similar efficacy against severe disease, hospitalization, and death to Western mRNA vaccines. Also, a difference of 20-30% vaccine efficacy is negligible since vaccine efficacy is a % reduction from a fraction. It doesn't make that big of a difference. It's sad they politicize and weaponized this false argument.

As an person with epidemiology-background, I can assure you, most epidemiologists do not share this guy's opinion. This article is a politicized hit piece that is not rooted in science or evidence-based medicine.

Starting in 2022, our country has been reporting a few dozen of new cases daily. All new cases were Omicron and imported from international arrivals then spread to community. At the beginning the government was so nervous, they ordered all Omicron cases were not allowed to treat at home no matter who you are (high rank officials and their family members always want special treatment). Recently they found out that all Omicron cases have mild symptoms and no death has been reported since then. The government seems to let down their guard and allow patients to be treated at home.
Walvax's Phase I data is finally published in a peer-reviewed journal. The data is good, but not amazing. Roughly on par with Clover or BNT-Pfizer.
People are overestimating the importance of mRNA vaccines. The most important vaccine data to watch for China's COVID strategy is the Phase III data for Sinopharm's second generation broad spectrum protein vaccine.
