People do have VPN and there are lots of Chinese users and social media personalities with a presence on Twitter and Youtube as well.
I can imagine it is happening, but in general I think we should avoid posting footage and photos whose attribution to current events cannot be verified by us.
There's already been a few instances when photos or videos initially posted by some people have been falsely attributed (sometimes with malicious intent) to be relevant to this current ongoing event.
To be so called devil advocate and answer rhetorically, I think mostly its combination of some people dont understand why seal off almost 60 million people, 15 plus cities, if it wasnt that bad, plus a lot of commenters on esp western sites say that "add three zeros" to the end of the death number to get a true count etc. Essentially a combination of distrust coupled with the shock and awe factor of unprecedented quarintinee of so many cities etc, they express they feel like its orders of magnitude worse than what they are being told or the current info released. For example infowars alex jones saying the fatality rate is 50 percent and R0 of more than 5.
I think his question was rhetorical in nature.
I myself would dare to say that I have higher expectations for people on SDF to be better at this than the general populace on the internet at critically assessing information and avoid exaggeration or panic.
If PLA watching has taught me anything in my real life, it is to be OKAY with saying "we don't know yet" and being comfortable with it, without having to fill in that hole with speculation, consumption of unverified news/photos/videos, or trending towards sensationalism.
It seems to me there is some kind of attempt to apply a full court press against China and it's allies with recent events, such as the HK protests, Iran/Iraq assassinations, Bolivia coup.... etc.
One way and possibly the best way to take the pressure off and even hit back covertly if not overtly against this would be for China to resume one brilliant thing it did a while back, and that would be to resume the so far one time event of China's version of IWZ
