Hmm I may have underestimated Chinese population determination for zero covid. I have been reading comments of frustration with the constant lockdowns and having to endure multiple times of testings on weibo. It would seem there will a breaking point if this continue to happen with delta wrecking plans or a new variant worse than this emerges and the lockdowns and city wide testing continue to happen.
In any case, we will see and hopefully herd immunity from vaccination can be reached to put all arguments to bed. I trust the Chinese government will do what is best and they have the trust of the people
There will always be people frustrated by policies no matter what. The thing to do when conducting any investment is look at the worst case and best case scenarios.
Best case: open up controls, economy increases maybe to 6-7% rather than 5%. Fundamentally will still slow down later though due to exhausting pent up demand.
Worst case: US/India.
So why risk it?
And as for how much Chinese people care about health: some Chinese people spend 10k+ USD on traditional medicine with no proof of efficacy for extension of life for a few years.
COVID prevention costs maybe 1 USD per person and prevents the multi year life expectancy loss seen in the US.
