I think he spends too much time on scrolling through and chatting in a fanatical Chinese Christian or right wing Facebook or Wechat group through VPN. Those are literally the only places where one thinks America is running “normally”.

In a way, America is running normally. What other country can you absorb this kind of societal impact and just shrug your shoulders and say something like "I guess it's COVID season"?

A bunch of children were killed a few years ago in a school shooting. A bunch of words by politicians, a lot of shock expressed by TV personalities and then it was business as usual.

Hmm I may have underestimated Chinese population determination for zero covid. I have been reading comments of frustration with the constant lockdowns and having to endure multiple times of testings on weibo. It would seem there will a breaking point if this continue to happen with delta wrecking plans or a new variant worse than this emerges and the lockdowns and city wide testing continue to happen.

In any case, we will see and hopefully herd immunity from vaccination can be reached to put all arguments to bed. I trust the Chinese government will do what is best and they have the trust of the people
There will always be people frustrated by policies no matter what. The thing to do when conducting any investment is look at the worst case and best case scenarios.

Best case: open up controls, economy increases maybe to 6-7% rather than 5%. Fundamentally will still slow down later though due to exhausting pent up demand.

Worst case: US/India.

So why risk it?

And as for how much Chinese people care about health: some Chinese people spend 10k+ USD on traditional medicine with no proof of efficacy for extension of life for a few years.

COVID prevention costs maybe 1 USD per person and prevents the multi year life expectancy loss seen in the US.

Flight from Russia into Nanjing brought Covid. Cleaners at Nanjing Airport infected. Areas around Nanjing Airport identified as hot spots. Woman living vicinity of Nanjing Airport intentionally used sister's green code to travel by bus to Yangzhou (her code was yellow). She didn't want to be locked down. Travelled by bus to Yangzhou. Played Majiang at many places in Yangzhou, primary source of spread. Most people infected are over 60. Testing for everyone in the city roughly ever 3 days. Allowed to leave compounds once in a 3 day period. Typhoid Mary sentenced to 7 years in prison (need to confirm).
She was arrested as of late last week, I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a sentence yet. Understandably people are very upset about her behaviour, here's a taste of it on social media:

Tradition Chinese medicine is actually key to why China hasn’t had as many fatalities from covid compared to other states; even patient outcomes are improved with traditional Chinese medicine so much that it forms part of the protocols against covid

I make no comment on TCM in general, because there's much that we don't know about it. Artemisin for example was discovered from TCM.

However there are superstitious TCM ingredients that indeed have no proof of efficacy.

I don't know if it was key, but Chinese doctors have indeed confirmed that TCM treatment helps with both recovery and prevention of severe symptoms.

@DarkStar bro one of those is LIANHUA QINGWEN JIAONANG or people call it here as Lenghua, it cost only $1.80 per box containing 10 tablets. Its effective, people with vested interest try to use the Chinese Card to demonized the medicine therefore it was sold in the black market but it works and gov't should authorized its usage but was prevented cause our FDA is REGULATORY CAPTURED by the western pharma. Brother it saves a lot of lives especially the poor people who can afford it. The proof is our death toll, percentage wise compare to people infected its very minimal.
