Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

It's really f..ng super annoying that whenever there's an issue no matter how small or big China's opponents both from within and without the country seems to relish or suggest the opportunity that somehow this time China's government is on it's last throes all because the virus is now all over the country and somehow it'll supposedly bring down their economy and then people will be aching for revolution.

My f..ng question is this? Why is it that countries like India, U.S. and host of other countries that fared worst in every meaningful measures on this pandemic no one seems to be clamoring for revolution? And do these people somehow thinks that the solution to the current Chinese predicament is a tectonic shift in political system will magically rid themselves of its so called problems and all of its territorial issues with her neighbors would all of a sudden become so agreeable? Are these Chinese liberals these f..ng delusional? Are we really being led to believe that a democratic China wouldn't want Taiwan back? The world will somehow magically hold their hands and all is going to be well?

This fella's comment is a representation that all they want for China is to f..ng fail and be torn to into many pieces so that it can never become a challenge again not just to it's neighbour's but also to the Western hegemonic control of the world. And if am being honest, if force to choose between these 2 outcomes, I would rather China go WWIII than to see her break into pieces again.

Case 1 - caught it while playing mahjong
Case 2 - caught it while playing mahjong
Case 3 - caught it while playing mahjong
Case 4 - caught it while playing mahjong

Case 25 - caught it while playing mahjong
Case 26 - caught it due to have been in the vicinity of the mahjong room
There were videos on weibo of Yangzhou folks cussing out the Nanjing lady for 15 minutes straight.

You fell for the whites’ sales pitch. The West doesn’t want democracy for China. What they want is the balkanization of China and the resulting hellhole. There will not be another country to challenge their hegemony for eons to come.

Eons? Didn't they say the world only had about a dozen or more years before climate change did everyone in? The West is doing a good job of falling apart on its own even if China disappeared it would only prolong US hegemony maybe another ten years max....

Um, if the west wants COVID containment to fail in china, wouldn't that just end up with another india, where we let it fester a bit until it becomes a second version of delta and then spreads across the world, causing another wave?

I mean China could just re-shut provinces again for 60 days, which was proven in phase I. Plus this time china's population is mobilized with adequate PPE and delivery robots, and has literally been preparing our industrial and logistic capacity for the entire year in anticipation of another wave.

Just like first wave, a second wave and strain in china would take down the world much more than china itself? I guess the west really is bent on self-distruction.

There are only so many variants than can develop and still be very infectious, because the virus spike protein still has to be compatible with a fixed receptor design in human cells.

So if you can get to 80-90% vaccination rate, with a few vaccines that target the different variants, an outbreak should completely die out.

There is also a problem with the antibodies itself. To work against a virus, an antibody works like it has to be compatible with a slot. Imagine the virus to be like an electronic peripheral with a slot. The antibody works by fitting into that slot.

Imagine the virus mutating so that the slot also changes. One day, the antibody can no longer fit into the slot. Doesn't matter how many antibodies the human body can produce, it won't fit the slot.

The human body produces a pallete of antibodies so if one antibody doesn't work, it will try another one. Its like this electronic hardware technicial that carries all these various adapters for every occassion.

So the race will go on, until the virus has mutated to such a form where no antibodies in the palette can fit newly modified slot. Ergo we now got a superbug.

I also feel that vaccinations are still continuing at good pace. China has fully vaccinated coverage above the US while still below Chile. Chile is an important proxy since the majority of their vaccines have been sinovac, and they have reached close to 70% fully vaccinated, and have now seen a fall in cases. We should expect a fall in cases once we also reach 70% vaccinated, or roughly 2 billion doses. China should get to 2 billion doses around the next 30 days. I expect a slow climb until then and then a fall. I m guessing we will plateau at a few hundred cases a day and then it dribbles down.

India achieving herd immunity? How could they be sure? Do they even have enough testing?

They achieved herd immunity against the original version, and the earlier variants.

However by letting it spread, they also provide ample opportunities for new variants, example Delta+ (yippie do, an improved Delta).

The problem, like Delta, you may achieve herd immunity against an older variant, doesn't mean you will against a new variant.

Selective evolution means that if a body is immune from a previous variant, randomly created variants can be defeated by the herd immunity because these variants still have much in common with its defeated ancestors. Until you have randomly created mutants that have diverged or created new mechanisms which turn out to enable it to evade the herd immunity defenses. Then bingo you have a new infection cycle as the surviving, selected mutants spread.

Viruses are not alive, but they work like a computer executing an algorithm.
