Lol:

That's what you get for trying to play with the numbers.
Taiwan is going to be a sacrificial pawn in the US geopolitical chess. Never mind the government's incompetence and US lack of empathy, They are going to blame China for failing to allow Taiwan in WHA and for failing to get Taiwan vaccinated because "CHINA".

What is the meaning of: "331 regression corrections"?

331 more, or less cases?
They have been doing this for a few days now. Basically those are backlogged tests that now have their result coming back. But instead of counting them as confirmed cases on the day that the results came back Taiwan instead insists on counting them as "regression correction" and update them to the case total in previous days.

Basically it means the case numbers for last few days will always be wrong, because they will be "regression correction" updated at some future date. Regression correction is already a meme in China with people saying:

Girl: how many previous girlfriends have you had?
Boy: one.
After marriage
Wife: wait, I thought you said you had one previous girlfriend?
Husband: there's been a regression correction of 19

Taiwan today: we have zero new confirmed cases, we've beaten COVID-19!
Taiwan in a week: there's been a regression correction of 700 cases for seven days ago, on the plus side there are zero new cases today!

Top chart is with regression correction, bottom is without (always counting cases on the day they were confirmed)

I get the argument that without regression correction you are potentially only plotting the increase in test capacity. I don't agree that regression correction is a good idea and my counter argument is:
  • we can just tell increase in test capacity if you quote the daily number of test done each day
  • we can also tell an important stat: is test capacity catching up with case growth by looking at positive rate each day
  • regression correction makes the most recent few day's data worthless, and that's the data people are most interested in, it's a very useful stat despite its flews for judging pandemic prevention measure effectiveness

Here's someone's plot keeping track of each days regression correction. "Corrected" data will always give the impression that you are past the peak due to the nature of the time delay.

DDP is still playing petty politics even after the deadly outbreak. Show you how much they care about the people in Taiwan.
