Chinese vaccines doing well despite having to fight Western propaganda war against them.

Otherwise, the 5 billion doses may even go up to 10 billion, saving more lives.
Yeah. That Indonesian report on the Sinovac vaccine is really a shocker to the world. Now I see some west media are grudgingly getting along. If this trend of confirmation on both Sinovac and Sinopharm continues, I am pretty sure that it is going to be China that practically vaccinates the world after everything said and done. Never though this day would come so soon so dramatic. It is the capacity that counts in a long "war" of attrition, period.

So far, I've seen announcements of:

Sinopharm - 5 billion
Sinovac - 2 billion
CanSino - 0.5 billion

That's capacity of 7.5 Billion doses per year.
Or 4 Billion individuals if you account for 1 or 2 doses.

Then there's the contracts for 280 million doses of Sputnik made in China.
And Fosun making 1 billion doses with BioNTech.
Plus the other Chinese vaccines in development.

That should cover all 5.5 billion people on the planet - if you exclude the USA, Europe and India who are unlikely to use Chinese vaccines for political reasons.

And China has made 40 face masks for every person around the world. That is, before January of 2021.

Last year, I fully expected China to vaccinate the world.

Around the summer, I did a post which outlined how China would likely be the fastest to develop vaccines, deploy them and also ramp up capacity.

It turned out that Chinese Phase 3 trials were slowed down because China had completely eliminated COVID and they had to test in foreign countries with raging outbreaks.

China did turn out to be the fastest to start vaccinating millions of people. But again, the lack of COVID inside China meant there was no rush to expand production.

And what other country in the world has the capacity and will to ramp up production like China?

Pfizer, Moderna Vaccines Show Limited Effectiveness Against B1617 Variant Of COVID

The WHO said in a note that preliminary laboratory studies have found that the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna showed reduced effectiveness against the tricky variant discovered in India. B.1.617 (and its sublineages 1.617.1, B.1.617.2, and B.1.617.3)—the mutant variant—was categorized as 'variant of concern', or VOC, by the WHO earlier this week.

Inactivated viral vaccines seems to show effectiveness. But mRNA based vaccines of Pfizer and Moderna were found wanting.

Researchers exposed the variant known as B.1.617.1 to blood serum samples from 15 volunteers with antibodies induced by the Moderna vaccine, 10 volunteers with antibodies after receiving the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, and 24 people with antibodies after recovering from COVID-19. In a paper published on Monday on bioRxiv ahead of peer review, the research team found the India variant to be 6.8-fold more resistant to antibody neutralization in an all three groups. "Despite this, a majority of the sera from convalescent individuals and all sera from vaccinated individuals were still able to neutralize the B.1.617.1 variant,"

So China will be producing vaccines for the whole world, excluding India and the US.

So far, we're looking at Chinese companies ramping up vaccine production capacity for over 5 billion people.

There are only 7.8 billion people in the world, so there's no way Pfizer or Moderna will be able to restrict supply to the world.
That will drive prices down and make vaccines available to all a lot faster.

And it's telling that Joseph Stiglitz couldn't get this piece published in the New York Times or Wall Street Journal.
That is where he frequently writes.

Will Corporate Greed Prolong the Pandemic?

The scarcity of COVID-19 vaccines across the developing world is largely the result of efforts by vaccine manufacturers to maintain their monopoly control and profits. Pfizer and Moderna, the makers of the extremely effective mRNA vaccines, have refused or failed to respond to numerous requests by qualified pharmaceutical manufacturers seeking to produce their vaccines.
