In my experience and i believe this is also the viewpoint of the Chinese gov (and the ROC), healthcare outcomes are best achieved through a synergy of both modern medicine and traditional chinese medicine. TCM has evolved as has modern medicine- this means you're not going to see TCM in surgery, but you will see TCM in post operative rehabilitation eg acupuncture and herbal therapy or as an adjunct to chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
You're going to see TCM used in chronic disorders eg stroke patients, cerebral palsy, where the modern medicine equivalent would assign to physiotherapists- and here's the rub. Western physiotherapy is actually stealing traditional chinese medicine and claiming it as their own- look up dry needling- which is acupuncture; in fact, this is a feature of western imperialism: to steal foreign ideas and re-market it as their own. Eg non quinine based antimalarial drugs lifted from the pharmacopoeia of traditional chinese medicine eg QingHaosu, and for the office workers here, did you know the corporate "Agile System" which is all the rage in the anglosphere, is really a re-branded japanese corporate culture team building system?
TCM works in China and taiwan because the chinese worldview is a synergy of complementary opposites; it's a very western belief to have a zero sum attitude towards life- and it's not even true in science either. There's plenty of scientific theories that clash with each other (chemistry being a great eg) and yet are still taught in universities because people can accept two different conflicting schools of thoughts- and this is what medics in china, in taiwan, in korea etc do.
Unsurprisingly, the Chinese approach to COVID has been the most effective response; besides societal cooperation of locking down, isolating and contact tracing, the use of TCM along with allopathic interventions was crucial for the low death rate compared to modern socialised medical countries like Germany and France, and now with mass vaccinations and a new room temperature mRNA in the works, China's leaders simply create conditions that allow for the highest probability of preserving human life.
In fact, we could have an HIV vaccine or a cure to cancer in our lifetimes thanks to the humanity first approach to life in China compared to the profit driven anglosphere.
EDIT:
One final note, it's erroneous to compare the cow piss drinking Ayurvedic charlatans to TCM; the former is clearly guided by religious superstition; in TCM copious amounts of research literature has been conducted since the WHO was first formed to determine the correct dosages of active components of plant/mineral/animal part in TCM.
TCM of today has actually been standardised thanks to the CCP and the ROC, compared to what it was back even as late as the 30s.
