Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

If a country with 80 million inhabitants like Germany discontinues the AstraZeneca and J & J vaccines, it will save maybe 100 people from a fatal thrombosis. But 10,000 more die from Covid-19.
Although the benefits of the shot outweigh the risks, it is still a moral and ethical dilemma for government around the world. I do agree that it is probably justify to continue the vaccination but maybe limit to people 30 years old and over.

is there any official data on the effectiveness of Pfizer/Moderna/Oxford/J&J from Brazil?
Given the mutant variant there, you gotta compare the apples with apples for the true picture.
it would be kind of funny/karma that we end up having to mix mRNA with the dead virus vaccines in order to overcome this, forcing everyone back onto the table together...
Official, no. Most trials are conducted before the Brazil variant becomes prevalence. A small study in Israel claimed Pfizer might be ineffective against the SA variant.

The mRNA vaccines are ideally suited on combating variants and mutation because they are "programmable" and it is easy and quick to produce modified vaccines without taking too much time.

The other vaccines require significant more time to produce modified vaccunes

Same can also be said of adenovector and protein subunit vaccines. In fact in the case of the Sputnik V, this adenovector vaccine differs from the other adenovectors in that the vaccine utilizes two vectors which can account for its high efficacy.

The advantage of using inactivated is that the entire virus is exposed for memory immunity so it allows for some degree of the body recognizing the variants, as it is not all dependent on the spike protein.

Johnson and Johnson vaccine paused with the clotting issues that haunted the Astra Zeneca. J&J is an adenovector vaccine like Astra Zeneca. The question I have is whether this can haunt other adenovectors, such as CanSino and Sputnik V.

"Hopefully", it's due to the mix-up at the Baltimore plant, and that mix-up wasn't detected before the Feds found out. If it's a tech issue, that may be an issue that would plague the others you just mentioned.
