Gao Fu, as the head of the Chinese CDC, has the responsibility to speak as a scientist. I am not the least bit surprised his words were twisted by Western media, as science is always full of nuances. Look at how often climate change deniers manipulate the words of climate scientists.
China's hope of winning the PR war against the West doesn't lie in state-run media institutions like CGTN or Global Times. It lies in privately operated organizations like Guancha (of which Eric Li is a co-founder). We need more such institutions to deliver logical, persuasive arguments that advances China's positions, and we need more personal advocates such as 磊哥 to advance those positions on an emotional level.
