It is weird these aircraft are painted and have no engines. Is CFM dragging its feet delivering them?
US sanctions again?

I've suspected that for months, after the goal was to deliver 50 this year and they have only delivered 6 so far. Its clearly a soft pedal where they want to be able to publicly say that they are supplying engines to China but in reality are holding them back.

Wont delivery sched or period be part of like purchase contract?
Yes, very probably late delivery would have some sort of if penalty associated.

But there is also probably some sort of sort of force majeure cop-out will exist in the same contract. Where GE (the US) will play the game as much as they can, likely until an alternative engine (CJ1000) will mean that they will lose out of they don't deliver. I.E. the penalties are too insubstantial to coerce a change in delivery performance of GE.

So now we are seeing in the open 5 C919
1 for China Southern plus 2 more awaiting engine fitting
1 for Air China, and
1 for "Hainan Airlines?" awaiting engine fitting.

There are probably around 6 to 8 more being assembled at various stages inside the main assembly hall. And may be 1 or 2 more in the paint shop.
looks like production capacity is there, COMAC still not producing C919 in large numbers due to uncertainties like Engine supply.

my analysis is, COMAC will manufacturer C919 in low numbers until domestic Engine available.
