The first C919 large passenger aircraft, China's first homegrown long-distance transport jet aircraft, will be delivered to China Eastern Airlines in December, according to a meeting memo from the airline.

The memo, made public on Monday, said the company will take the responsibility of flying the first C919, and try their best to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.

from regulators on September 29.

The airliner is a milestone in the country's decades-long pursuit of civil planes designed and manufactured locally, set to compete with medium-range passenger planes, such as Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines is one of the three "backbone" state-owned airlines, listed in New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai. It has over 760 planes as of late 2021.

There are reasons why C919 started off with Western suppliers for landing gears and avionics. It's not that Chinese companies cannot build these things, but rather they have certain requirements in terms of low maintenance/availability that Chinese companies have not proven they can meet. Most of the airlines themselves have years of experience working with Honeywell and other avionics companies. Getting a new unproven Chinese supplier on a brand new aircraft is hard for a lot of airlines to deal with. You are already trying to introduce a new fleet type, which is very costly for an airline. So, they want to put it in service with as much familiarity as possible. As they get comfortable with operating C919, it will be an easier sell to get operators to try Chinese suppliers.
The main reason was certification. Thats how the West fcks with you, until CCAA reaches FAA cert level, they dont recognise Chinese certs.
