what is she studying? engineering will be a great choice, there is already a great demand for us engineering students, especially for female ones, these are jobs that they cant really outsource without compromising national security, or at least thats what CNN says.

That is really good popeye! Full scholarship to UCB is really impressive indead. I just decided that I like McGill better than NC state in less than two weeks, NC state send me an offer and McGill send me a letter asking for missing files... sigh...

For those who want to live in a European style city in North America, Montreal is really a good choice. The housing is really cheap, esp compared to UofT or UBC. But if you don't like 6 month winters, then Canada generally is not a really good choice.

Congratulations Popeye! Your daughter must be one good student - full tuition, that's unbelievable. Nothing gets better than that! And to Berkeley? Just wow. Why's she in California and you are in Iowa?

UC Irvine is that close to LA and SD? I thought it was further inland???
Thought it was near Finn's with Riverside.
(Didn't apply there though. Don't know why, but I went for Merced instead.)

Congrats, Popeye!
Congrats on her free trip to the best of the UCs (LA? As my tennis team's motto go: fahn oakey la! (Go home!))
Berkeley is DA SKOOL.

She cute-*clears throat* I mean, smart?
Cuz I'll be seeing her around with my crew. ;) :D
Anyway, Holy Congratulations!

(I like Alameda the city, it's peaceful and full of stores, kind of like a common's version of Foster City-or the OC. But yea, many heaps of stuff crosses paths between that 5km;) (You did check out Berkeley back in '75 right? :nono:) stretch between campus and the Hornet.)

I'm divorced. I had to move away because my ex-wife is a little nuts. I keep in close contact with my family in San Diego.

Irvine is in South Orange County, we're about 1-2 hrs away by car to either Downtown LA or San Diego, pending traffic. The city is also next door to Newport Beach, so we're not that far inland.

Irvine is a fairly nice master-planned community, except the idiots that live here voted down the mass transit/light rail project, which is killing us with heavy car traffic on the freeways right now. If anyone is planning to attend UC Irvine, I recommend living close to campus (within reasonable surface street driving distance).

This is a very nice & safe community where you could leave your garage door open or front door unlocked and not worry about people coming in to steal stuff. But it's OC suburbia and a bit "bland" compared to, say, San Francisco. Also, most restaurants in this city is "so-so", you'd find better dining places in Tustin, Costa Mesa, or Newport Beach.

UC Irvine is known to have the largest % of Asian student population of all UC schools in California. We used to joke and call it "University of Chinese Immigrants" (UCI).

Several weeks ago she got a scholistic scholarship to any University of California. We figured she would get into UCSD, UCSB, Irvine, Davis etc...But when she got the word it was Berkley. It was like winning the lotto. naturally Big Daddy Popeye was the very first person she told!
