I'm guessing this is signaling an end to the relatively amicable US China collaboration on green tech.

This shift was to be expected ever since China corner EV and renewables markets.

ambitious idea here of just epic proportion. 1.3 TW wind and solar power to produce 200-300m ton of green methanol a year as carrier of energy to be used in various industries later. Putting things in perspective, that is more than all the methanol that China consumes per year right now.

so people are actually asking why China still need to buy more and more crude despite the EV boom. Well, that might happen for a few more years, but the sheer size of China's petrochem industry needs it and this is where all that green methanol they might produce will really help. Com'on, get that up and going in Inner Mongolia

China will reach its 2030 wind and solar goals in 2024. Six years ahead of the official schedule (2030)!
55% of total global RE addition will come from China in the coming years.

Phase 1 looks to produce 500k ton methanol/year. Phase 2 looks to raise this to 5 million ton/year
Look term, goal is to exceed 100 million ton/year. But that's longer down the line

keep in mind the yearly production of methanol here is equivalent to 5 Daqing oil field production
saves 200m ton of oil, which based on my calculation is about 4million bpd of crude. Huge imo

byd with various hydrogen patents. Looks like it's getting into this soon.
