Jinksolar making a play for battery system to be used in conjunction with solar panel in Australia. It's already a big player in the PV market.

BYD battery box is really making a play in Australia too

complaining about Chinese dominance in solar supply chain

Huge costs in China from Global warming. 2 degree rise would double the cost to China compared to 1.5 degree

"Instead of using water, composite 30-ton blocks are raised using clean energy to create potential energy that can later be utilised by lowering the blocks to create kinetic energy."

say that it is building a project near Shanghai

"Gravity-based energy storage developer Energy Vault has started construction on its first commercial-scale project. The 100MWh energy storage system is being built near a wind farm in Rudong, Jiangsu Province outside of Shanghai, China."

Be that as it may, in any case, there are a lot of ideas being born. I think the (2030-) electric revolution will be striking as renewable sources merge with a combination of various forms of storage, from pumping water, compressing air, heating rocks, raising and lowering rocks ... Who knows?

(What is really striking and annoying is that these companies, which are all promises, have a huge valuation, while Chinese companies with a long track record and high sales figures have a ridiculous valuation in the West.)

Energy vault is horrible compared to water or even battery. Water doesn't require complex lift mechanism, battery doesn't require moving parts.

China got scammed like India got scammed by Hyperloop. I feel a bit of shame for this.

The commercial production on an industrial scale is often harder than building a prototype. Here is the interesting story of the development of the vanadium redox flow battery and its application in China. Vanadium batteries are inflammable (which do not contain lithium ion) and will not lose capacity even after thousands of charge-cycles.

The U.S. made a breakthrough battery discovery — then gave the technology to China

Dam the copium in the first article, from what I gathered the US had more then enough chances to invest in the tech but chose no to do it.
