Looks like 2023 was the peak year of emissions unless something extraordinary happens in H2 of 2024. That's 7 years ahead of schedule. Xi deserves huge amount of credit for pushing this so aggressively.

here is their longer report on June. I find the steel section especially interesting. It talks about new policies to support scrap steel. Not only is that better for environment, but also better for import bill of iron ore.

Hopefully this switch to renewables generates a sort of positive feedback loop where lower energy costs > lower production costs > more renewables > lower energy costs

Imagine a fleet of fully automated factories producing renewables powered by renewables. We are almost at the point of sci fi.
