The following passage describes China's involvement in Boeing's new generation passenger aircraft, the 787. The significance of the article is China has the capability to produced composite aircraft components at world class level. Apparently China has applied its composite tennis racket technology to the aviation industry.:coffee:

For now, another foreign contract is what Liu is most pleased about. AVIC I and its sister organization, AVIC II, will be sole suppliers of composite structures for the Boeing 787. "The size is not very big," he says of the contract signed in June 2005. "But what is so meaningful is that we work with the OEM from the very beginning of the project. It's the first time we are the sole supplier from the very beginning. We are determined to do the job well."

The $ 600 million 787 contract includes construction of the composite rudder by AVIC I's Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Group, wing-to-body fairing panels by AVIC II's Hafei Aviation Industry Co., and the leading-edge assembly for the vertical fin by AVICS I's Shenyang Aircraft Corp.

a similar news, this is on the assembly of A320 in China.

We know that it is done in the city of Tianjin

Laurence Barron, President of Airbus China, stressed recently that personnel changes in the senior administration of Airbus and its parent company would not affect the progress of general assembly line of Airbus A320 in China. At present Airbus is negotiating the details of the program with the Chinese Industrial Union headed by the Tianjin Municipal Government. It is promising the feasibility research will be finished in autumn and then construction of the factory can begin. China is the first market to become part of Airbus'global development strategy.

Laurence Barron also stated that although the Airbus A320s will be assembled in Tianjin, none of the parts are produced there. However, some parts of Airbuses are now made in China, such as ports, which are made in Chengdu, the regional capital of southwest China's Sichuan province, and Xi'an, the regional capital of northwest China's Shanxi province, and airfoils made in Xi'an.

It is estimated that of the Airbus A320s, 15 to 20 percent of the parts are now made in China. With the introduction of a general assembly line for Airbus A320s, the proportion is sure to be enlarged.

It is estimated to produce the first in 2008

Recently, Tianjin Tianbao Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd was commissioned by Construction Office of Tianjin Airport lndustrial Park to issue tender notices for the Airbus 320 plane assembly plant in China. This means the A320 plane assembly plant has entered the preparation stage and will be constructed soon.

The National Development and Reform Commission of China announced that Airbus SAS (Airbus) had chosen Tianjin Binhai New Area as the location for its A320 plane assembly plant. This is the first time Airbus has located its plane assembly plant outside Europe. According to a contract signed between Airbus and the Chinese side, Airbus will produce 4 A320 planes per month in the first phase of the assembly plant and the first plane will be delivered in 2008.

In order to complete the project on schedule, Tianjin has decided to tighten its schedule and issued various tender notices relating to project design, construction and management.

I also thought I'd introduce two Chinese developed planes that are selling pretty well.

First, the 19 seat Z-12. This has achieved hundreds of sales.

HARBIN, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Three China-made light aircrafts from a manufacturer in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province were delivered to Zambia's Defense Ministry on Monday.

The 19-seat Y12 series planes are twin-engine, general-purpose monoplanes designed and developed by the Harbin Aviation Industry (Group) Ltd. (HAI), based in the provincial capital Harbin.

The aircraft would be mainly used for troop transport and emergency rescue operations, said Chilufya Kapwepwe, counselor at Zambia's embassy to China.

Zambia bought five of the Y12 series in the deal. The other two will be delivered in November.

By the end of 2005, HAI had sold more than 100 such aircraft to 20 countries and regions, such as Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Tanzania and Namibia.

China's home-made aircraft are gaining popularity abroad, especially in developing countries.

Last Friday, China delivered two domestically manufactured Xinzhou-60 passenger planes developed by the Xi'an Aircraft Company, to Laos and the Republic of Congo, the first such sales to the two countries. Enditem

After reading articles on the F-22, I had the impression that supercruise(flying supersonic without using afterburners) was a new technical achievement. Actually the ability to supercruise was achieved about 30 years ago. The Russian Tu-144 SST passenger plane (and the Anglo-French Concorde SST as well) can supercruise at Mach 2 (older Tu-144 models supercruise at Mach 1.6).:coffee:

more on ARJ-21, looks like they will be able to build more of them than I had previously expected.
Sept. 14 (Bloomberg) -- China is building three bases in
the southern municipality of Shanghai to manufacture locally-
developed passenger jets, state media Xinhua News agency said.
China Aviation Industry Corp., the country's biggest state-
owned aircraft maker, said it has started construction of a 1.8
billion yuan ($227 million) base in Dachang in Baoshan district.
The plant will be able to produce 50 ARJ21 regional jets a year,
the report said.
China Aviation will also build two other bases, in Minhang
and Pudong district in Shanghai, the report said.
The ARJ21, which can carry 700 to 110 passengers, is
expected to make its maiden flight in March 2008, Xinhua said.
China uses planes made by Boeing Co., Airbus SAS and Bombardier
Inc. for domestic air routes, the report said.

hopefully this will help China's civilian airline projects
Beijing to host Russian-Chinese session on civilian aircraft building

MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian-Chinese sub-commission
for cooperation in civilian aviation and civilian aircraft building is
to hold its first session in Beijing on September 21.
"Deputy Industry and Energy Minister and Co-Chairman of the Sub-
Commission Andrei Reus will lead the Russian delegation. The Chinese
delegation will be headed by Jin Zhuanglong, deputy chairman of the
committee for defense science, technologies and the defense sector of
the People's Republic of China and China's co-chairman of the sub-
commission," the Industry and Energy Ministry said in a press release on
Monday.
The session is expected to address the completion of the sub-
commission's formation, confirm a cooperation plan for 2007-2010 and
discuss the prospects of Russian and Chinese aircraft manufacturers'
participation in international air shows in Russia and China, the
release says.

more news on the A320 plant in Tianjin, if they can actually produce 4 per plant, that should be enough for any sales to China. Also, it should improve the production capability of AVIC1/2

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Airbus is likely to take a 51 pct stake in an aircraft
assembly plant in Tianjin, China, the aircraft maker's first assembly facility
outside Europe, the Securities News reported.
Citing sources, the newspaper said that the Tianjin local government will
hold a 29 pct stake in the plant, with the remainder to be owned by two major
aircraft makers - China Aviation Industry Corp I (AVIC I) and Corp II (AVIC II).
Total investment in the assembly line is expected to be five bln yuan,
rising to 8-10 bln eventually, said the report.
Airbus said earlier this year that first deliveries from the plant are due
in 2008, and by 2011 the plant will have the capacity to assemble four aircraft
per month.

not really sure what this means for the Chinese aviation industry, but I found this on the newswire.

By Jianguo Jiang
Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Xi'an Aircraft International Corp., a
Chinese supplier of parts to Boeing Co. and Airbus SAS, agreed to
pay about 3.2 billion yuan ($405 million) in stock to buy
factories from its parent. The shares surged to a record.
The acquisition, which includes production lines for the
ARJ21 and MA60 regional planes, will probably boost net income
about sevenfold to 440 million yuan ($56 million) next year, the
company said in a statement to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange today.
China is developing the 70- to 90-seat ARJ21 as a competitor
to imports from foreign manufacturers such as Bombardier Inc. and
Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA. China will probably add 798
regional jets by 2024 as demand for domestic air travel expands,
China Aviation Industry Corp. I, the country's biggest aircraft
maker, said last year.
``It's a big change for us,'' company spokesman Hao Zhanfu
said of the acquisition in a telephone interview from the
northwestern city of Xi'an. ``Our earnings will keep rising.''
Xi'an Aircraft shares rose by their 10 percent daily limit
to close at an all-time high of 11.83 yuan on the Shenzhen
exchange as they resumed trading after a three-week suspension.
The stock has jumped 158 percent this year, outpacing a 60
percent gain in the Shenzhen Composite Index.

Regional Jets

Earnings gains will be contributed by an increase in
components supplied to Boeing and Airbus, the ARJ21 project and
high production of MA60 jets, Hao said.
Xi'an Aircraft's parent makes wings and bodies for the ARJ21,
which has yet to make its commercial debut. China Aviation
Industry, the plane's manufacturer, in May delayed the model's
first flight for at least a year.
AVIC I, as the company is known, has won 41 orders for the
ARJ21 from domestic carries including Hainan Airlines Co.,
Shanghai Airlines Co. and Shandong Airlines Co. Deliveries of the
aircraft will start in 2008, AVIC I President Liu Gaozhuo said in
Beijing on May 24.
Brazil's Embraer, which has a venture in China to make
regional aircraft, said in February orders have not matched
expectations as the country's airlines focus on bigger passenger
planes. Embraer and Canada's Bombardier are the world's biggest
makers of aircraft that carry fewer than 100 people.

Parts Supply

China's economy has grown an average of 10 percent for the
past three years, boosting demand for business and leisure air
travel. Boeing forecasts the country will be the second-largest
market for commercial planes after the U.S., with demand for
2,600 airliners valued at $213 billion over the next 20 years.
Xi'an Aircraft will increase parts supply to Boeing and
Airbus, the largest makers of commercial jets, to $70 million
next year from $50 million this year, Hao said. The company will
make 20 60-seat MA60 planes in 2007, up from 8 this year, he said.
Boeing has sourced about $700 million worth of hardware from
China. More than 3,900 Boeing airplanes, or about 30 percent of
its fleet flying around the world, are equipped with parts built
in China, according to the company.
Airbus in June picked the northern Chinese city of Tianjin
as the site for a proposed assembly plant for its A320 aircraft.
Xi'an Aircraft plans to offer 660 million new yuan-
denominated shares, including at least 363 million shares to its
parent Xi'an Aircraft Group Co., and 297 million shares to nine
other unidentified investors, at 9 yuan each, the company said in
today's statement. That's a 16 percent discount to the closing
share price of 10.75 yuan on Sept. 22.
The share offer will increase the parent's stake in Xi'an
Aircraft to more than 50 percent from 43.5 percent, according to
Hao. The purchase will increase Xi'an Aircraft's net income from
an estimated 63 million yuan in 2006, the company said in its
statement.
