If Blood Message doesn’t contain Tubo enemies (the main reason behind the rebellion) out of sensitivity to Tibetans then that’s a real message that Chinese developers need to stay the **** away from historical settings because all it’s going to do is cause controversy.
How hard could it be to just not have Ming enemies in Wuchang? The story isn’t even about the Ming but some esoteric fantasy race based on the Sanxingdui culture. If the director wanted to make a statement about obsession could he have picked a worse historical target than Ming loyalists during the fall of the dynasty? The whole implicit message there is “people should know when they are defeated, just surrender to the Qing already.” How could you think this would not trigger at least some people? What do you think would’ve happened if the KMT & CCP just took that attitude towards the Japanese?
