At times the MC appears to be using a variation of a Pu Dao, a weapon that can be considered a glaive. This type of weapon started appearing towards the end of the Jin, then extends all the way to the last dynasty, of which the Guan Dao and Zhanmadao, were variations. Compared to previous era halberds like the Ge and the Ji, which were anti infantry weapons, pole arm Daos were meant to strike down northern horse riders, which became an increasing problem.
Long human length Daos with long handles were also common towards the Tang Dynasty, again their purpose, along with their moveset, were meant to strike down horse riders.
In a fantasy setting, these might be the best weapons to strike down demonic beasts.
