Huh, I figured that there would be one under each wing. Maybe the WZ-8 is a bit too heavy for those payloads. (or maybe they just needed 1)

I don’t think it is so much the weight as it is the aerodynamic penalty.

I would like to point out that this may not be a WZ-8. The wing silhouette seems to be different and the size seems a bit too big. It may be a modified WZ-8 or even something entirely different.

Sharp observation there.

The aircraft carried underneath the H-6MW looks more kite-shaped (especially the rear section of the aircraft) instead of the almost sharp isosceles triangle shape that we typically associate with the WZ-8.



Another notable observation is that the aircraft's edges also looks more varied and bloat-ish(?) than the WZ-8's simple-ish straight line edges.

Interesting discovery and development indeed.

I agree that it’s probably not the WZ-8, the edge Outline looks more like this to me
