Impressive. When I was still in school, the only way for drones to do these aggressive obstacle avoidance was through external positioning system, but it seems that these days the sensors (camera? lidar?) are good small enough and accurate enough to be carried onboard for the forest runs.

Not just forest run with single drone, first run with a swarm that maintains formation while doing it. Crazy stuff.

What is the accuracy of this? Is there a Chinese Wingman equivalent project?

Basically every military force in the world with an aviation arm should have at least one loyal wingman program either being researched, or developed.

In the case of China, of course absolutely -- it would be insane if they didn't have multiple loyal wingman efforts going on already for sometime, on the back of years of pre-research and development at that.

Do we have any reliable counts of the total number of attack drones that China currently operates? Sorry if this question has been asked already. If anyone can point me to a good source or two, much appreciated.

I don't think we have any good sources that truly talks/reveals the scope of actual deployed attack drones (or drones for combat).

Not to mention attack drones is a pretty big category, does it count kamikaze swarm drones? (one such thing was displayed at a military expo with video of it working). Even for bigger drones that are like the american predator (like the winglongs) there's also different types of such drones (on the 2019 parade a one wing stealth type was on display as an example).

At the end of the day, to my knowledge we do not know the true scale and extent of drones in play in the PLA, but it should definitely be among their focus points and I would not be surprised if China is at the very forefront in terms of deploying and using drones.
