Thanks ... this was my assumption too, since it would indeed explain the Soaring Dragon II as well as the JL-6G behind. Even if other reports spoke of Nanchang.
However if our reports are correct that the Lijian is designed by 601 institute (SAC) and will be produced by Hongdu aircraft factory, why is it here in the background hangar ??? :confused:

Deino

maybe because this is China's premier facility for testing UAVs. Well, this and the one for NTU

Agreed ... but one final question: what's NTU !!??? :confused:

NTU -> Northwest Polytechnic University

A lot of the Chinese UAV projects get developed here. I think they are like a research institute so the actual production has to be carried out by someone else.

actually, it's NPU according to wikipedia

"China is believed to have converted a number of out-of-date J-6 fighters into UAVs, which may well be being used to monitor the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands."

>_<;;

Well, at least he didn't claim to be a China military analyst like Richard Fisher.

That may have stemmed from a rumor on Chinese BBS on converting J-6s and J-7s to suicide drones.

Lol at least rick fisher is better than David axe or pinkov!
And I have to hand it to fisher for looking at chinese internet and pulling out some under development projects. He is a little bit alarmist, but some of his older articles mentioning what once was J-XX and Y-XX have come true, along with various uav projects.

Alarmists are alarmists for a reason. They do it because they want certain actions to be done and most of the time what they're alarmed about they exaggerate or they don't believe it themselves because the whole is they want action done. Fisher always has a theme that goes along with his alarm and that is the US has to pour money into defense. People aren't going to agree to that unless there's a threat out there.

Considering that his modus operandi appears to be take from the same sources as SDF (military exhibitions and online pictures and rumours) and then putting the worst possible spin on them, it would be surprising if he didn't get something right from time to time...

Chinese media reports indicate that the winner of the 2nd AVIC-Cup International UAV Innovation Grand Prix (UAVGP) in the fixed-wing category this week was fielded by a group of students representing Shenyang Aerospace University in Liaoning Province. The AVIC-Cup competition was held at Miyun Airport in northeast Beijing. According to media reports, the fixed-wing UAV attempted to land on a mock aircraft carrier in the center of the airfield. It successfully snagged the second hook. It is unclear how well other competitors performed.
