Re: JL-15 and other trainers

The blurry pictures create a lot of confusion, they make you think you see a CFT and DSI intakes but in reality neither is present.

What surprised me was what appears to be a leading-edge slat (I could be wrong) being deployed.

What do you guys think?

Are we sure that's the carrier version?

To me, that does not look like the landing hook. Rather, it seems to be folding fin similar to J-8II.

Hi Deino, I saw that pix on sina a few days ago but you need to confirm me if the pix is not CG or PSed.

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

This particular picture of surely a PS.

It might have been dabbled with but the tail hook has certainly not been PSed in... if it was PSed in anyway it does not detract from the picture's validity.

This is an old photo anyway, it's been on huitong's site for months. With these latest batch of photos of the JL-9H we can say for certain this thing exists and has at least flown once.

Speaking of huitong, his website has been down for quiet a while now....

If i'm right to presume the JL-9H doesn't have folding wings. My question is why not? Is it so small there is not a great gain from folding wings?

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

^ Quite possibly, yes. I think the T-45 Goshawk, the only other carrier capable trainer I know of, does not have folding wings either? At least I haven't found any mention of it or seen any pictures.

Though if JL-9H did have folding wings they could potentially have two of the trainers with folded wings in the place of one unfolded. It's just that skinny.
