The L -15 B is the varint that will need the FAU, or L-15 A whit radar. What happend whit the engine of the L-15?, ¿ Have China a local engine for this?
I don't think radar it's a prerequisite. L-39ng have no radar (beside altimeter...) and look like the one they look at. JL-8 have some AA capacity (P, ) and is way cheaper than L-15. JL-9 is quite high priced too...

I have been waiting a long time to say this, but couldn't the chinese airforce upgrade some JL-8 airframes with plenty life left with some more modern systems (20km scan/track radar, ... ) and use these to handout to needy nations as a token of goodwill. After all, these birds have proven their reliability and versatility. It would also be an excellent way to introduce yourself to the local politicals.

I agree with that idea. Upgrade JL8 whit radar and more wing loading, something like the Aermacchi 326 o 339.
