If that is a real pic. And I'm not saying it is PS. that torpedo is inert. In other words for training. The warhead appears to be orange in color. Generally that designates weapons as inert or a "target drone" or training. I base this on my USN experience. Of course I'm not in the PLAN so this is just a guess on my part.

Re: Chinese sub thread

This torpedo is of course a training one. PLAN use training torpedos most of the time. But, each type of torpedo has its own training torpedo. This one is obviously different from Yu2's training torpedo I've seen before. The warhead is red or orange for easy to recover. The training torpedo can record a lot of data and is much more expensive than real torpedos.

100% correct. Excellent response.:) This is very similar to the methods the USN uses in torpedo training. You can't use a "warshot" torpedo for training. That is waste full.

The data is recorded in what used to be called a "tele-metering pack". That device records how the torpedo performed during the test shot.

Some years('77-'80) ago I instructed the loading of Mk-46 torpedos on the H-2SF Sea Sprite helicopter.

Re: Chinese sub thread

bd popeye, one of my uncles who is about the same age as you, was a petty officer serving on a torpedo boat in North Sea Fleet. He spent about 10 years in PLAN, now he's working in Dalian shipyard.

One thing about him is he is a super swimmer. I got 3rd in 100 meter freestyle, 4th in 100 meter breast stroke and my team got 1st in 4x100 free style in high school swim competition in my district. At the same time he was about 40 years old but he swam much faster than me!

Don't be shocked. He was a member of NSF's polo team. He said they always lost to the other two fleets, then won back on the drinking table.

A youtube vid of PLAN submarine fleet. Actually it's just pictures put together and several are already posted here. I just thought it's a nice collection and worth a look.

Speculative photo of Type 094 sub. Notice the low-profile conning tower, similiar to Russian Borei class sub:

Re: Chinese sub thread

Please guys take a look in sinodefence.com before posting!

The picture is certainly not ´speculative´since it shows simply the old Xia class sub after her modernization refit.

Nevertheless quite massive modifications are very apparent and some experts have second thoughts about the dogma of only one Xia sub having been ever commissioned.
(May be two units have been actually built but with a significant timegap between their respective launches and consequently there existed only one commisioned SSBN in PLAN at least until 2005. )

Re: Chinese sub thread

so, if Yuan was ever classified (which I didn't think so), it no longer is. Pictures posted by Chenium originally from PLA Daily.
