Not surprised by the haters nor the lovers.

What surprised me was Cambodia and Myanmar, both stereotypically portrayed as pro-China. Thought Cambodia would be closer to Malay/Indo levels of Sinophilia given how close political links are to China. Myanmar is also surprising, given that the US funds various rebel groups but the establishment has often been portrayed as pro-China.

The institute polled policy elites, not normal people, because the assumption is that elites craft policy so they matter more.
A surprise for me is that Vietnam now hates China more than a couple years ago. Very strange, what happened? Cambodia idk, Myanmar should be obvious that Burmans won't like the country that probably is tacitly supporting Han ethnic seperatists, plus they're super infiltrated by NED.

Not surprising for Myanmar. Go to any discussion about the junta with Burmese people. You'll see they tend to blame China for their plight since it's so easy to look outwards rather than inwards.

My guess is that since this is a survey of their ruling class, it reflects the attitudes of their upper class male boomer demographic. if they are 60-70 today, they would've been born in 1954-1964, and have been young adults during 1979.

Wow, good point. This article is being shared quite widely and assessed as evidence of mass appeal, rather than a survey of elite opinion. This honestly makes me far more surprised about the Vietnamese numbers, I can understand Vietnamese being biased against China and biased towards the USA (well I think it's not rational but I can understand it) but the notion that almost 80% of Viet public and private elite would not only dislike China but support USA in opposition to China is actually shocking to me. I wonder what they think the USA is offering them in the long-run.

Except the political elite in control of current day Vietnam very much favors China > US though.

Pretty clear when one looks at what Vietnam has been doing and saying for the last many months (can't blame them either, there's better economic development with China, and it's also a big neighbour that they really can't afford to anger).

Not to mention, a bigger purge of the southern faction happened quite recently (this faction was way more pro US).

It just seems that some people have no self respect and love getting beaten up. The staunchest supporters on this list are both countries that America has abused; the Philippines was colonized by the US and Vietnam had napalm dropped all over them in war. And that's not to mention America's top bitch in Asia (and perhaps the world), Japan with the world record 2 nukes vs everyone else's 0. I guess some people just have no self respect and need to be in abusive relationships; you treat them like real people and it just doesn't do it for them. Just like some girls you try to have a nice dinner and conversation with them and they're just like, "Slap me; throw me on the ground and call me a worthless whore! Don't hold back; I like to taste my own blood!"

PETALING JAYA – The Malaysian King, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, is the first in the world to privately own the Hongqi L5, China’s most expensive luxury car.
He shared photos of the retro-styled car during a meeting on April 12 with Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.
Released in 2013 at the Shanghai Auto Show, the L5, which is manufactured by FAW Group, is renowned for being the most expensive Chinese-made car ever available for purchase, at five million yuan (S$958,000).
It is the official state car of China, as it is used by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The car is currently available only in China.

The audience with the King was to discuss bilateral relations between Malaysia and China as well as current issues concerning both countries.

The King gave his views on the direction of diplomatic relations and the need to identify more cooperation opportunities.
“China is an important global economic power and a large trading partner of Malaysia,” he said in a social media post on April 12.

The King hoped that Malaysia would leverage its unique capabilities to benefit, increase trade volume and technology exchange, and further expand exports to China.
He also hoped that more Chinese companies would invest in Malaysia to create more job opportunities for Malaysians.
Also present at the meeting were FAW Hongqi Global president Wang Lingyu and Genting Group chairman Lim Kok Thay, as well as founder and president of the VXL group of companies Lim Chee Wah. – THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
