In the US, people don't know the meaning of words. It's Pavlov's dog. They associate things with other things not knowing what it actually means. They've been taught communism is bad and that's it. In my college days, the young Republicans on campus when I hear them talk, they were communists. They believe in one party rule (Republicans) and they should control all aspects of society. The Republicans try to paint themselves as protecting American values. Well they want to undermine the voting rights of women and minorities while wrapping themselves around the flag because democracy is seen as good which the US is suppose to stand for. They use the romanticism of what people around the world universally want to manipulate them into their control. They don't believe everyone has the same rights but they use universal values to get people to serve their agenda. If Jesus showed up today, they would label him a communist.
Just look at the Western definition of soft power. That's not power for someone who wants any kind of power. They, the West has the power because you have to have something they like in order for you to have the soft power they say is important. They get to decide if what you have is to be liked. That's the power because you have to bend-over backward for them. They're exploiting human nature that people want to be liked. The West uses yoga as an example of how India has soft power while China doesn't because Westerners practice it. How does yoga give India any kind of power? Because the West likes it, they're less likely to want to kill Indians...? How does it translate into power?
There is also the human value of wanting to live in peace but here Western soft power seems to be about just staving off hatred which to them is the norm. It's like how the West labels you guilty until you prove yourself to them you're innocent. That what's they do at the geopolitical level. The West accuses China of things without proof because they want to see China bend-over backward to prove otherwise. Everything they do is the opposite of what they say they value.
Western soft power is just exploiting human nature of wanting to be liked and turning it into power for the West. Yoga is power...? It's only power because the West needs it as an example to manipulate China into thinking being liked, by the West, is important. And all it gets you is maybe the West will hate you a little less. Before China became a thorn on the West's side, most Americans never heard of the existence of the majority of countries in Asia. If it weren't for China, India would still be seen as a hopeless third world shithole to the West. Yoga would not be spun as any sort of power. The West is deathly afraid of Chinese influence in the world. That isn't "soft power"?
