They don't even have to do that, what they need to do is make it a policy to export their top social media platforms in the form of an separate international version. This way China can control the platform and manage the information streams on those platforms and slowly erode away Meta and googles strangle hold on the worlds information streams in the form of youtube, facebook and instagram.

US social media platforms have no "international version",the US version is international version, the platform follows US law and the content is US centric,US domestic news will always be front page.

Chinese social media platforms all have "international version",the headquarter and datacenter of these "international version" is not located in China, they don't follow Chinese regulations nor the content has much to do with China.

The result of this is obvious,Chinese platform has much less power to project Chinese influence over the global compare to US platform. Their oversea operations are purely for profit, not much else.

Heck even Chinese games all have "international version",there is nothing in Chinese digital space that has does not distinguish "domestic" and "international". Which all thanks to the great fire wall they are forced to do so

Do you have any evidence to support your assertion that china struggles with culture confidence at home or are you just talking out of your ass again.

Chinese softpower won’t spread world wide until China opens its great firewall. Its not the government but the people that effectively spread softpower. Be it visiting student that take part in cultural program in foreign University, or an immigrant who make authentic Chinese cuisines in his/her resturant or just a simple video blogger like Li Ziqi who show how beautiful Chinese traditional food/ way of life is. The more China is secluded and cut off from rest of world, the lesser people from abroad will know about Real china and instead will be indoctrinated to a fake image of China what west wants to portray.

For once China should be brave and tear down this Great Firewall Censorship. It will definately be chaotic at first but China would be structurally more robust, stronger.

I think 0 Covid policy is similar to Great Firewall Censorship. One can draw parallel between these 2 policies. 0 Covid policy seemed like it worked but it was a policy doomed to fail. You can never be forever isolated from the world.
It depends what the primary purpose of that firewall is. Is it to enforce censorship or to block strategic American digital giants and building local capacity?

If the former, the government and China will always be on the defensive rhetorically and at some point, it will have to go which unfortunately won't be on the government's terms.

By this logic Taiwanese media must be super influential right?Give a me a break
Being a bottleneck means it is a necessity. But it says nothing about sufficiency. And Taiwan is not without its own bottlenecks in the semiconductor sector.

While your observations are sound here, the reasoning is wrong.

It was the domestic laws of the host countries not the GFW that force the Chinese companies to store their international user data outside of China. For the same reason, Microsoft, Apple, etc. have their Chinese user data stored inside China because they are required by the Chinese laws.

The US media do have an international version. It is called VOA.

Xi JinPing talked alot about establish "culture confidence". But to this date Chinese society is really struggling to establish culture confidence at home, let alone project softpower overseas.
Isn't this exactly why Xi wants to establish culture confidence? What are you complaining about?

But outside world doesn't like this level of control, like I don't think anybody would use a game where you can only play 30 minutes a day, if china removed firewall all these people would jump to another game and they would dump Chinese social media too because it has too much of censorship.

Also the mandatory real-name registration system isn't so attractive to the outside world either

The purpose of the firewall ?Originally,it was intended to block foreign influence, but now the system has been abused and manipulated by pretty much every influential special interest groups. Big corporations can slience voice criticizing their product or business activities from platform, celebrities and people with "connections" can do it,corrupt local bureaucrats can slience voice expose their misconduct, and so on so forth.

These special interest groups benefit greatly from the firewall. If Chinese people is able to access outside platforms that are not in their control, they will be doomed
