Dalian Huarui's capacity expansion project for large marine crankshafts has been launched and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, alleviating the shortage of high-end production capacity.

Dalian Heavy Industry's subsidiary, Huari Crankshaft, has commenced construction on its largest marine crankshaft capacity expansion project, with the plant expansion expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The project focuses on supporting 300,000-ton oil tankers and 10,000-TEU container ships. Upon completion, its crankshaft horsepower production capacity will increase from 4 million to 7 million, and its annual shipbuilding capacity will reach 15 million tons, effectively alleviating the supply-demand imbalance of high-end marine crankshafts in China.

The company's annual output consistently ranks among the top in the industry, with a domestic market share exceeding 50%. first quarter of 2026, company produced 58 crankshafts, a year-on-year increase of 10%, setting a new production record.

Note - Manufacturing a crankshaft for a large marine engine is an engineering feat of extreme complexity. The complexity stems from the sheer scale, the need for flawless metallurgy, and the meticulous multi-stage fabrication required.

They were the first Chinese yard to make a breakthrough on the membrane type LNGCs, a monopoly Korean yards held previously iirc.
yeah I’m aware. However, I thought the government (CSSC) would have transferred their experience and technology to other shipyards so China can capture more LNG contracts globally and overtake s.Korea in market share?
Afterall Hudong shipbuilding capacity is limited .

So I think I have been living under a rock but I just found out about Hengli Shipyard today

Apparently they are a petrochemical company that bought a bankrupt South Korean yard in Dalian in 2022 and quickly accumulated a ton of orders:
In July 2022, Hengli Heavy Industries acquired the assets of STX Dalian Shipbuilding for 2.11 billion yuan. By June 2026, the shipbuilder had accumulated at least 395 confirmed orders—equivalent to 12.2 million compensated gross tonnage(CGT)—within just four years, successfully ranking among the world’s largest private shipbuilders. According to Hengli Heavy Industries’ publicly released site map, vast arrays of giant gantry cranes are in continuous operation, representing a scale of production capacity rarely seen anywhere in the world.

In 2024, Hengli Heavy Industries began delivering its first commercial vessel orders, with the lead vessel—a 61,000 DWT bulk carrier—delivered more than 40 days ahead of the original schedule. Hengli Heavy Industries’ true capacity expansion will begin in the second half of 2026, with expected deliveries surging from 17 vessels in 2025 to approximately 80 in 2026 (with about 20 already delivered this year), approximately 120 in 2027, and at least 160 in 2028.
