Interesting that instead of giving seperate figures for Japan and South Korean, they had to combine them to make them look favourable against China.

Many previous posts on this thread have already gave China's ship building at below 50% of global production. The attention should be on current and future ship orders received by China, Japan and South Korean and their deliveries in years ahead.

Chinese shipping giant China Merchants Energy Shipping has signed another deal worth CNY10 billion (USD1.3 billion) from Qatar’s state-owned petroleum giant QatarEnergy to build and lease four extra-large liquefied natural gas carriers..

The four maximum-size LNG carriers will be built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and each will have a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters of LNG, Shanghai-based China Merchants Energy said yesterday.

Designed and developed by Hudong-Zhonghua, they are the biggest LNG carriers in the world with 57 percent more capacity than normal LNG carriers which can carry 174,000 cbm. Deliveries should start from 2028.

looks like. China will go with full force in LNG sector this year.. LOL

They are part of the earlier 18 ship order. The article says as much. Quoting:
------------------------------------------
The four vessels owned by China Merchants Energy are part of a USD6 billion order for 18 LNG carriers with a capacity of 271,000 cbm each that Doha-based QatarEnergy placed with China State Shipbuilding Corp., which owns Hudong-Zhonghua, last week. The owners of the other 14 vessels are not known.

No worries, the shipbuilding market is a little notorious. Often there's a company who owns the ships, someone who leases them, someone who finances it, and then the shipbuilder. Even the company who leases the ship might use someone to manage it.

So it was indeed the second order for China Merchants Group, they got one order in March. Interestingly though, the shipbuilder for that order is Samsung.

In other news, April was good for China, with the 18 LNG order, 76% market share.
