BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua) -- China's exports of ships jumped during the first two months of 2024, both in terms of volume and value, official data has shown.

China exported a total of 937 ships from January to February, up 59.9 percent year on year, according to the General Administration of Customs.

The export value soared 180.6 percent from a year ago to 48.25 billion yuan (about 6.8 billion U.S. dollars) during the two months.

China's shipbuilding industry has expanded in recent years. The three major indicators of the industry -- output, new orders and orders on hand -- secured the top position in the global shipbuilding market for the 14th straight year in 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in January.

China should indigenise all parts of this ship going forward. Heard over 60% depend on European/Western companies? Not sure how true that is.
It is a commercial passenger ship, there's nothing wrong in using European/Western companies supplied parts and software. Cost is the priority. Morever, the West is way ahead with more than one hundred years experience in cruise ship design, construction, software and
management etc.

Chinese shipyards need to be humble and learn to avoid re-inventing wheels which is time consuming, and with knowledge and experience thus gained from the first domestic built cruise ship, they will be able to move fast foward in future to achieve more localization in cruise ship design and construction.

China is still on the learning stage. Consider this a 'graduate thesis', not the 'magnum opus'. For now China use western parts to be competitive. As it gain more orders, it has time to slowly replace components one at a time. The orders serves as building market for future Chinese sub components to thrive.

Yes, for a 'graduate thesis' it is magnificent, so it gets confusing. But it is still only a fraction of the true capability to come.

60% percentage is completely wrong.. it is around 40% imported parts like ..

Swiss propulsion system
Finnish automation & control systems
Italian interior design

Adora Magic Ship has 107 systems, 55,000 sets of equipment, 25 million components and parts, 4,750 kilometers of cables, 365 kilometers of pipelines and 120 kilometers of air pipes..

60 percent of parts/components , all core materials , tooling , skilled work force are Chinese .. Ship is designed in Shanghai and software work also done in Shanghai .. don't forget this is the first time China has build large cruise ship.

second ship has approved and Metal cutting started too .. localization will increase further as per the shipyard statement .. CSSC already called for local supply chain build up and integration .. so it is a matter of time.

Components like propulsion system, automation and control systems are the most important parts. What is the % of local parts in terms of $ value?
