How do the Koreans continue to make profits with that kind of pricing?

The Koreans were making small losses for some years.

But now, overall shipbuilding capacity is constrained so prices are up and there is a large backlog.

Plus the Koreans specialise in LNG carriers, which have a huge backlog now. In addition, we're seeing the Koreans shipbuilders import more components from China, which reduces costs and bypasses labour limitations.

great. I actually just came back from a cruise ship.

Still operating after 22 years. So these things really need to last a while. Really complicated machines to build

Going to be tough for all the European shipyards when they lose business here

This is somewhat related to Hudong shipyard's relocation to Changxing island. The current facilities will be dismantled and the site re-developed.

The end of an era for Hudong shipyard. The last new ship (an LNG carrier) being built at its old facility in Pudong district has just left the dry dock for sea trials. New ship production going forward will now shift to Hudong's new facility on Changxing Island.
