Economic Watch: Shipbuilders gain momentum in central China as yacht tourism thrives​

CHANGSHA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- As the sun gently rises over the tranquil lake at dawn, shipbuilding factory workers shatter the morning silence in an industrial park in the city of Yuanjiang, central China's Hunan Province.

Yuanjiang, owing to its position in the hinterland of China's second-largest freshwater lake Dongting, benefits from waterways that provide abundant resources and foster a flourishing shipbuilding industry. For centuries, countless ships have set sail from here, embarking on journeys around the world.

Shipbuilding is now a pillar industry for the city, boasting an impressive output value of over 10.5 billion yuan (about 1.49 billion U.S. dollars) last year and representing more than 80 percent of the province's total output value of shipbuilding.

Yuanjiang is home to 59 companies dedicated to shipbuilding and related supporting businesses.

"Our current order quantity has quadrupled from the same period last year," said Yu Jinming, sales general manager of Yaguang Technology Group Co., Ltd.

He emphasized that the shipping industry is embracing the trend of green and low-carbon development, with new energy ships becoming the market's top choice. Consequently, orders for these vessels are rapidly surging both domestically and internationally.
"We are actively investing in research and development to transform and upgrade our vessels, making them more environmentally friendly," Yu said, adding that new energy models currently constitute approximately half of the company's product lineup, and this percentage is expected to increase in the near future.

As the summer approaches, yacht companies are currently experiencing their busiest period to receive and fulfill orders, aligning perfectly with the surge in travel demand.

"Recently, we have been particularly busy, with the number of inquiries and orders doubling," said Liu Gang, deputy general manager of Haiquan Yacht Co., Ltd, whose phone now rings incessantly with new business prospects.

Liu said the company's primary focus is the manufacturing of passenger boats and tourist yachts. "With a series of promotional policies in place, the tourism industry is experiencing a robust revival and domestic water-based tourism has welcomed various development opportunities."

Liu believes the shipbuilding sector holds immense potential for expansion, given the rising popularity of yacht tourism.
"Since the beginning of the year, we have witnessed a significant increase in order volume," said Xia Canhui, an employee of Hunan-based Taohuajiang Yacht Co., Ltd.

"To maintain stable orders and expand the market, our company has dispatched sales representatives to various regions across the country," Xia said.

As workers made final preparations for the trial launch of a waterway transport vessel, Xia pointed to a large ship that would soon depart from Dongting Lake and head for distant ports. "Our future lies in the vast ocean," he said. ■

The world's first M350 type floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel designed by China Shipbuilding Dalian was officially delivered on Friday.

This vessel is the world's first ultra-large offshore project designed with the latest specifications, and can be applied to oil and gas development operations in many global waters.

This ship delivered today is 364 meters long , 64 meters wide , 33 meters deep and displacement of 460,000 tonnes. in terms of total displacement it is one of the heaviest surface ship ever built. probably in top 4 of all time list.

Is there a reason the ship building industry is on a price war vs Koreans instead of cartel price fix? Just for economic decisions or is there deeper political cause?

My thinking is that China now sees south korea like japan and taiwan are US slave colonies. Before China tried to win them over using encomny benefits but what China got was these countries took full advantage of it while keep being US b!tch and worst of all using their industry strength such as Semiconductor, CNC machines, and ship building as weapons to keep China down. Now new generations of Chinese leaders born after the 1980s are taking charge. Where the old generation were completely brainwashed by the west and worship the west by selling China out.

Their industries are now seen as threats to China's national security and China wants to completely destroy them; first, it replace them with Chinese industry high paying jobs; second, destroy their weapons; third, weaken US influence and finicial strength, since all these countries use USD to trade !!

After paying workers’ salaries and spending on R & D

After paying raw materials (China is getting a huge discount from Russia now while koreans are paying premium price !!)
After paying workers' wages.
And still have room to spend 5 to 6% on R&D !!

Yet still manage to break even !!

It is also helpful to build commercial ships cheaply to deindustrialize south korea. It will make sure if a war happen there will be no alternative to Chinese supply chain. It also cripple potential of a hostile larger Korean navy.

Then it is time to expand navy like no tomorrow. By that I mean less than 2 years. Less than 2 years we will see terminal decline of Korean industry. Next on the chopping block is Japanese auto industry. 3 years top. 2025 lets see Japan if they still have number 1 largest auto industry.

For the single-reactor configuration, when sailing in the open ocean (Bohai Sea, for example), the FNPP has a (waterline) length of 120m, beam of 35m, a draft of 10m, with a displacement of 60,000 tons. When moored, it has a (waterline) length of 100m, beam of 30m, draft of 5m, and a displacement of 40,000 tons. I guess its ballast tanks are filled for better seakeeping when sailing in the open sea, and they're emptied once the ship is docked.
