This is slightly over 1 week old news but what makes it that Samsung is unable to catch up with Taiwan firms like TSMC?

There just aren't that many customers for advanced processes because cost is exponentially increasing as critical dimension decreases.

If you want to bring a product to market you don't ask what is the most expensive part you can use, you ask what is the cheapest part you can use for acceptable performance.

Because there are so few customers - mostly Apple, Qualcomm, AMD and previously Huawei - it is winner take all.

How much helium does semiconductor mfg use?

"China is quietly extracting itself from a US helium ‘stranglehold’, experts say

Years of research and development are helping China become less reliant on overseas sources of the valuable noble gas"

In an article published in late 2022 in the journal Frontiers in Environmental Science, several researchers from

Beijing-based Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development stressed that once the US imposed a “stranglehold” blockade on helium exports to China, the country’s helium supply would be “greatly restricted”......

"The US has a global monopoly on helium reserves and the most advanced helium extraction technology, they added.

But the dynamics have shifted significantly. Last month, achievements in helium extraction and related equipment development were nominated for an annual scientific award by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)........"
"The Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry under the CAS, which backed the project, said it had successfully extracted helium from natural gas at the plant, located in China’s northwest.

There have been other breakthroughs. China has set its sights on extracting helium from

.

Two years after it began a joint project in 2021 led by the China Coal Research Institute, the team said it had successfully overcome the challenges and mastered the technology."

"The world’s first high-purity helium extraction plant for coal bed methane was commissioned in China in 2023, opening up a new avenue to boost the country’s helium production.

Scientists are also seeking alternatives to helium to produce the ultra-low temperatures needed in hi-tech industries.

For example, an international team, including physicists from a CAS institute, have discovered a cobalt-based quantum magnetic material that could theoretically achieve ultra-low temperatures without relying on helium. Their findings were published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature in January."

I believe Russia is also increasingly producing more and more Helium from its massive LNG field, the US is far from dominating helium production currently. Qatar is producing more

AFAIK only EUV CO2 laser uses vacuum tube powered RF source. Achieving bulk supply means there should be more than one euv prototype being tested now. Only thing I’m not sure is whether it’s still in a lab or already in a fab now

Anyone have more knowledge about this? Can China somehow convert this Arm China a completely Chinese company? If so, does it mean it will "own" Arm v9 ISA too? It will be amazing considering how many billions of devices have Arm ISA embedded in then
Honestly I have no idea. From what I heard the ARM China CEO went completely rogue and hijacked the company by stealing the company seal and then ARM China went to shit lol. Correct me if I’m wrong.

oops, rogue not rouge lol

"Idemitsu Kosan, a Fortune Global 500 company, has announced an investment increase in the Chinese metropolis of Chengdu, aiming to establish its Chinese headquarters there. In May 2018, it invested RMB 240 mln in Chengdu to build its electronic material manufacturing base"

....

is there any reason you need to bold your text?
I dont think he may not be intentional in those bold letters, i had trouble w pasting some articles sometimes too, it automatically bolds, then if u try to un-bold, it just dont un-bold sometimes... maybe depends on source website...

Huawei/Hisilicon has "permanently" license of Arm9 since 2021
