More good news. Xiaomi is still the leader in smartphone sales in India. Xiaomi led India smartphone shipments for 15 consecutive quarters. Those Indians sure know how to boycott Chinese products..

India lost half of their manufacturing to China over the past 5 years too. Tariff on Chinese inputs actually killed Indian manufacturing.

In quantum science, it has been generally believed that the US leads in quantum computing while China in quantum communication. Early this year, when USTC announced the fastest quantum computer in the world, some US experts still doubted it was a viable quantum computer because it was a photonic one and is non-programmable and thus was inferior to Google's Sycamore. With the latest advances in China, particularly the Zuchongzhi system, it is clear that it is the current most powerful programmable quantum computer in the world, beating Sycamore.

I don't know why I posted this one in this semiconductor thread. Sorry.

Anyway, I'm posting a four-party series on quantum technology in the China New Technology thred.

That was just denial comrade, they were scared, and kind of knew they were going to get beat.

Once that Chinese system came out, it blew me away, and I don't know too much about this stuff.

In a video I saw, a couple of European professor told us the right point, which is this thing Pan Jianwei and team built was scalable, along with detecting all those photons means it was more reliable.

The programmable part was the simplest compared to the the stability of the system. Once the system is proven to be stable and the detection methods accurate, then slap in the programming part is just the final touch.

That the Americans back then a few months ago harped on that point that the Chinese system was not programmable, that meant their machine could not compete on scalability and more importantly reliability.

It comes down to the material science of the lasers and crystals where the photon is split and travelling, and the measuring instruments which is engineering very high level it seems. How much of this gear is all Made In China? A lot of it we could guess.

Just to go off topic for one post, apologies in advance.

Here are the Chinese, landing Mars, leading the world in 5G, building a quantum computer.

What do the Americans do? They just banned Huawei again! Along with some sanctions and partial IC restrictions.

Let's take a step back.

That is how crazy it is.

We did not even mention the Chinese space station, and the quantum satellite, which has been in the sky for 5 years and the Americans still has not produced something similar. That was what was wrong with the American strategy. They should not have banned Huawei, they should have banned quantum!

The American government should have banned the Chinese economy, which is the base for all this high tech stuff. That is what President Trump should have done!

That Chinese quantum computer, that sure seems like a prototype. They will try to improve reliability some more, and maybe scale it up some more. But it is working like a computer, a quantum computer.

That probably why those two papers came back to back. One to repeat the same Google experiment, then do a new experiment. If they can do these things on demand, that should mean that thing is operational on some level.

Gasp!

I don't think the US has even begun to realize how badly it dun goof'd with its semiconductor sanctions. China having an indigenous EUVL capacity does a lot more than just give it technological independence, it allows it to use its massive share of the semiconductor market coercively. Armed with its EUVL fabs, the Chinese government can phone up the CEOs of Qualcomm et al. and tell them that if they want to continue selling chips in China, i.e., selling chips at all, they'd better use Chinese fabs to make those chips.

China can use a complete semiconductor tech tree to leverage being the largest semiconductor consumer to become the largest semiconductor producer almost overnight.
I always interject in comments sections regarding the US's competition with China on technology when will Americans realize their racism is a national security threat? It's because of their racism they don't realize it. Their belief in their natural superiority is making them lax. Not only is it true I can say it because make something about racism and there's a knee-jerk reaction to reject it. It's an omission they don't want to admit to.

India lost 50% of their total manufacturing industry in 5 years, to end up relocated in China? I find this hard to believe. Most manufacturing is small scale and isn't easily offshored. Also, offshoring takes time. India is lethargic, inefficient and super hostile to China. Do you have references to what you said here?

Yeah, that claim was ridiculous, so much so that I thought he really meant that 50% India's manufacturing industry were killed by the Chinese import in the last five years. That would make much sense.

This is both a strategic liability and strength for China. A liability because it is largely the reason for the exclusion, discrimination and hostile "Clash of Civilizations" that more commonly describes this. A strength because it hides in plain sight the strength and capability that China has. When China was weak, this was much more a liability. However, not just now but for the past several decades, it has become a great strength because it has allowed China to rise peacefully. Yes, peacefully, because it delayed the more blatant, and inevitable, attacks that would otherwise harm China's development long-term. Now, all attacks on China and all things Chinese serve the purpose of furthering China's ascendance by gradually eradicating remnants of pro-Western sentiment, better known as anti-China.

What are the chances of it getting sanctioned like Huawei.

Great. I don't think Xiaomi will get banned by the US. Xiaomi is just an integrator, not really an innovator the same way as Huawei.

Once Xiaomi start developing their own chips to replace Qualcomm, there is no doubt the US would ban it
