A western commentary that is a bit sobering about China's semi industry and govt funding
1. Too much of the Investments were into factories (buying foreign equitment) rather than fundamental science
2. Corruption led to 10s of billions wasted
3. Many of current achievements are dependent on foreign input and/or have terrible yields

Just another political science PhD who thinks technological know-how grows on trees. Projects take time to mature. There is even a joke about this. You can't pay 9 women to make a baby in a month. They will be fun to read in 5 years. Even more so 10 years when US tech becomes something Chinese corporations actively avoid in pretty much every single industrial sector.

Some of his statements are by the way flat-out wrong. And worst of all, the article is very ideological. I couldn't count how many times he used the word top-down. It is basically just another unremarkable "China can't innovate" article.

U.S. likely to limit S. Korean production of advanced chips in China: U.S. official

The United States is turning the screws on South Korea in relation to China. I expect South Korea to yield, though not willingly. In the end, this will greatly hurt South Korea. South Korea cannot expect magnanimity from China in the future, especially as long as it remains an ally of a country that is so adversarial to it. South Korea had better find some ways of greatly decreasing its energy costs such as through going on the building of third and fourth generation nuclear power stations in combination with renewables to replace much or most of its current capacity of power generation so as to be, despite is small market, a much more domestic demand driven economy - even highly predominantly - because with things like these and others that might creep up, it is extremely vulnerable to be so highly export reliant as it still is.

Not sure there is a domestic 16nm production line.

China's first AI chip "Qiming 930" based on Chiplet technology was officially unveiled. This chip was developed by Arctic Xiongxin, using 12nm technology, and the central control chip uses RISC-V CPU core
This is a good first step. But compare this with leading edge player Mobileye which recently announced a 176 INT8 TOPS EyeQ Ultra Chip. This is basically competitive with last generation leading edge products for automotive or current mainline consumer.

It does make me wonder though, I would think the photoresist for 28nm should be the photoresist for 14/7nm process. Any reason why KOH developer would be different? Or is Greenada just making an excuse here? Why can't their product be verified on 28nm or even HLMC's 22nm process.
Contamination can be an issue. I mean it could work with the light source just fine, and it could work fine with larger process, but finer process might fail because of tiny contamination particles which are not an issue in the larger process.

Phytium CPUs continue to win orders from major SOEs for critical infrastructure. It's too bad Loongson did not develop LoongArch earlier when it was obvious MIPS was at a dead end. They have a better product than Phytium, but missed out on about 1 to 2 years of ecosystem buildup and domestic procurement drive.
Well I knew it. Loongson should just start doing RISC-V. In fact Phytium should pretty much do the same at this point. Why pay for ARM licenses. The Russians are jumping straight into it. They can't license anymore products from ARM because of the US sanctions.

Does anybody know the current progress of High-end ADC chips in China? It is vital for high-precision measurement and radar applications
Beats me. I know in Russia Milandr designs and sells 16-bit and 20-bit ADC chips.

I doubt China does not make such chips themselves either. I mean they are a basic component for making accurate missiles. Given that China has hypersonic missiles which can hit moving ships that would be a given.

The FPGA chip, which is more familiar to the outside world, mechanisms such as the Wassenaar protocol are also limited according to the number of pins and the transmission rate. As a logic device, the performance of the FPGA chip is not only determined by the design, but also related to the production process. More advanced manufacturing processes bring lower threshold voltage and power consumption, and faster operating speed. Currently, AMD (Xilinx) UltraScale and other high-end The FPGA process has evolved to the level of 16 or even 7 nanometers. Due to the well-known limitations in China, it may be difficult for domestic FPGAs to obtain relevant advanced process support for a long time.
GOWIN makes 22nm FPGAs. The larger FPGAs are mostly for higher end applications. But typically you can expect a custom ASIC of that silicon would be possible at much lower power consumption at a much older process.

Is 1) dopant ion implantation unto a silicon wafer taken prior to coating the wafer with silicon oxide and photoresist layers,

OR

is it undertaken 2) after lithographic exposure and etching of the layers above the silicon wafer

OR

can it be undertaken in any of the orders above

?

Turn a profit! Anlu Technology's 2022 net profit is 60.1024 million yuan

Anlu Technology released the 2022 annual performance report. In 2022, the company achieved operating income of 1,042,009,200 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 53.57%; the net profit attributable to the owners of the parent company was 60.1024 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 53.57%. Realized turning losses into profits; the net profit attributable to the owners of the parent company after deducting non-recurring gains and losses was 7.591 million yuan, turning losses into profits year-on-year. As of the end of the reporting period, the company's total assets were 1,872,987,200 yuan, an increase of 8.29% from the beginning of the period; the owner's equity attributable to the parent company was 1,605,384,000 yuan, an increase of 6.40% from the beginning of the period.

Anlu Technology said that during the reporting period, the company continued to enrich the product matrix, continuously optimize product performance, and expand product application fields. With the continuous expansion of the company's FPGA product market coverage, the company's operating income has increased significantly year-on-year. At the same time, the company's product structure has been continuously optimized, the sales proportion of high-margin products has increased significantly, and the overall gross profit margin has increased compared with the same period of the previous year. Net profit after deducting non-recurring gains and losses achieved a turnaround year-on-year.

During the reporting period, Anlu Technology's operating income increased by 53.57% year-on-year. The main reason is that the company's FPGA chip product series will gradually enrich in 2022 and its competitiveness will be further enhanced. It has been widely recognized by customers in downstream industries, and its revenue has achieved a substantial year-on-year increase.

During the reporting period, Anlu Technology's operating profit, total profit, net profit attributable to owners of the parent company, and net profit attributable to owners of the parent company after deducting non-recurring gains and losses all achieved a turnaround from loss to profit year-on-year. The main reason is that the company's business The revenue has increased significantly, and the product structure has continued to be optimized, the overall gross profit margin has increased, and the gross sales profit has increased significantly.

He has no idea what he is talking about. He does not know what the fundamental science is, what the constraints are, etc. Lots of big claims, scant evidence.
Yup, he has no idea what he was talking about.

Well, there is plenty of Chinese companies make 24-32 bit ADC. But they are very slow, cannot achieve high precision and high speed simultaneously, unlike ADI or TI products.

FPGA are being used more widely in the industry than you might anticipated
